Which policy unlocks are required to ensure #EnergySecurity?🚨 The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) new report, "Policy Recommendations to Unlock the Value of Long-Duration Energy Storage," provides policy recommendations to remove barriers to deployment, unlock value drivers and accelerate private sector demand for LDES technologies. LDES leads to: ⚡ Widespread deployment of renewables ⚡ Enhanced grid reliability and resilience ⚡ Reducing the use of natural gas peaker plants ⚡ Avoiding variable renewable overbuild ⚡ Diversification of the domestic energy storage supply chain Long duration energy storage is a technology that stores energy in various forms, including chemical, thermal, mechanical or electrochemical. These resources dispatch energy or heat for extended periods of time ranging from 8 hours, to days, weeks or seasons. With India targeting 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030, storage must scale alongside renewables to ensure grid reliability, affordability, and industrial competitiveness. Key benefits of LDES include: ✅ LDES strengthens grid reliability. During extended periods of low renewable generation—like a week of cloudy weather or seasonal dips in solar output—LDES can step in to keep the grid stable. ✅LDES lowers costs and enhances energy security by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, strengthening local supply chains, and improving energy affordability. ✅LDES supports India’s industrial growth by providing clean power for industries like food and beverage production, textile, ceramics and chemicals. ⏰ The Time to Act is Now India can lead the global energy transition by setting LDES targets, implementing market mechanisms for revenue certainty and investing in domestic manufacturing. 🔋 A Game-Changer for Vanadium Flow Batteries & LDES Deployment Member Stryten Energy has joined forces with Largo Clean Energy Corp., a subsidiary of Largo Inc., to launch Storion Energy, a joint venture designed to vertically integrate the vanadium supply chain for long duration energy storage (LDES) in the United States. This collaboration directly supports the DOE’s goal of reducing the levelised cost of storage (LCOS) to $0.05/kWh, making LDES more competitive and scalable. The companies will offer domestically manufactured vanadium electrolyte at a competitive price through a leasing model. Impacts on LDES Deployment: ✅ Balancing the Grid – LDES, including VRFBs, is essential for balancing grids during supply and demand imbalances and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Their ability to store energy for 8+ hours strengthens grid reliability. ✅ Performance Advantages – Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB) can outperform lithium-ion in lifespan, scalability, and fire safety. ✅ Supply Chain Integration – Storion Energy’s "Earth to Energy" model establishes a fully integrated vertical supply chain by leveraging vanadium from the only vanadium mine in the Western Hemisphere and domestic electrolyte production. 📢 LDES plays a critical role in achieving global net-zero targets by increasing energy flexibility.
