Recently, Lead by Learning presented at the SEL Exchange Conference in Chicago, showcasing our signature practice, the “Focal Student Learning Partnership Conversation,” as a transformative tool that empowers educators to better understand students' learning and experiences. This approach promotes adult SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) among teachers, enabling them to be vulnerable and build empathetic connections with students, fostering a learning environment where teachers act as learners and students as partners. During the session, attendees had the opportunity to plan out their own partnership conversations, which proved to be deeply impactful. As one participant reflected, "This type of conversation is a window into the student's identity, sense of belonging, and their experience of learning, while also serving as a mirror into the teacher’s operating assumptions, biases, and feelings, offering a chance to investigate further." Third grade teacher, Jane Kopp, was instrumental in our Lead Program Facilitator Brooklyn Joseph's decision to become a teacher.
