  • Emotional intelligence is a sought-after competency. A lot of leaders see themselves as a good judge of emotional intelligence. But self awareness is where emotional intelligence starts, and many leaders think they already have plenty of self-awareness. Not so fast. A leader may not be as self-aware as they think. Listen or watch Angie Lion and I dive further into this on the LeaderU podcast https://lnkd.in/gBe9CNCG

  • A leader's awareness of their ignorance is where they start gaining wisdom... #leadership #selfawareness

Wisdom tends to grow in proportion to one’s awareness of one’s ignorance." Anthony de Mello (1931-1987) About Anthony de Mello: An Indian Jesuit priest and psychotherapist, Anthony de Mello believed that awareness is the key to living life more fully and to connecting with something greater than ourselves. #Leadership #LeadershipMatters #SelfAwareness #SelfInsights #LeadershipGrowth #Purpose #Meaning #Leadskill Page: Leadskill 🔹 What’s a quote that has shaped your understanding of wisdom?

What is your idea of a good presentation? When I’m the presenter, it’s a good presentation when the audience is clearly engaged. It’s not the delivery, the payment (for a paid presentation), the visibility or any of the other criteria that matter as much as what happens in the audience. “A thing is good if it fulfills it’s concept.” Robert S. Hartman That’s a disarmingly simple truth that provides a foundation for a science of value (axiology). It’s an axiom that unlocks a universe of meaning and possibilities. It’s also a key point in the presentation I made yesterday to a group of expert practitioners at the Robert S. Hartman Institute. They were receptive and welcoming, and I appreciated having Sophie Coulthard, Peter Demarest and Clifford (Cliff) Hurst there among many others who contributed. Want to understand a little better what’s really “good”? Find an axiologist and engage them in a conversation about something you care about a lot. It will open up a door to a whole new world. #thoughtleadership #valueleaders #goodmatters

  • I see two mindsets that couldn't be more different. One looks at situations as a reaper: What can I get out of this? If it's there for the taking, they take it. The other looks at situations as a sower: What can I plant? I'm going to plant something good so we have more tomorrow. Nothing wrong with reaping. But if you never sow and you're always taking, that's not leadership. Generous leadership is about investing, developing and adding value. We love working with leaders like that! • Smart leaders look for the context. When people share something, leaders look at the bigger picture. Decision time? Look at the frame around the decision. What came just before this? How is this likely to be received? When we miss the frame, we take things out of context, people don't feel understood and we end up making worse decisions. Need some help with framing things or context? Reach out to Ron Oltmanns at Leadskill #leadership #decisions

  • Are you in automatic mode? As constant problem-solvers, leaders often assume that everything an employee brings them is a problem-to-be-solved. Check that assumption first. Is this a problem and do they WANT a solution? Or is this a problem and they want to keep me informed? Or are they just wanting to be heard? A leader who jumps into problem-solving mode every time is seen as someone who doesn't listen or as a micro-manager. Check your assumptions before problem-solving

  • The feelings wheel is a powerful tool that more leaders need to know about...and use. Mental health at work is getting more attention these days. Research shows that naming your emotions leads to greater emotional control, which helps people be more productive, effective and even creative at work. You can get a copy of several different kinds of feelings wheels at leadskill.com and reach out about workplace training or talks on these EQ topics! #emotionalintelligence #leadershipcoaching
