Trying to figure out a company *actually* cares about Diversity & Inclusion 🏳️🌈? Ask one of these 20 questions during the interview process: 1. How does the company define diversity and inclusion, and what steps do you take to foster a diverse and inclusive environment? 2. What percentage of women are currently employed at the company, and how does this compare to industry standards? 3. Can you provide specific examples of initiatives or programs the company has implemented to promote diversity and inclusion? 4. How does your team address unconscious bias during the hiring and promotion processes? Are there bands, rubrics, etc? 5. Are there any employee resource groups or affinity networks focused on supporting underrepresented groups, including women in tech? 6. How do you ensure that women are given equal opportunities for career growth and advancement within the organization? 7. What kind of mentorship or sponsorship programs are available for women in the company? 8. Has the company conducted any diversity and inclusion training or workshops for employees? If so, what were the outcomes? 9. How do you handle incidents of discrimination or harassment? Can you share any specific examples and how they were addressed? 10. What measures are in place to ensure equal pay and benefits for men and women in similar roles? 11. How does the company support work-life balance for women, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities? 12. Are there flexible work arrangements or remote work options available to accommodate the needs of women? 13. What steps does the company take to ensure that women's voices are heard and valued in decision-making processes? 14. How does the company promote a culture of respect and inclusivity among employees? 15. What efforts are made to attract and retain diverse talent in the tech industry? 16. Does the company have any partnerships or collaborations with organizations focused on diversity and inclusion in tech? 17. How do you measure progress and success in creating a diverse and inclusive work environment? 18. How does the company address intersectionality and the unique challenges faced by women from different backgrounds? 19. Can you provide examples of women who have had successful careers and growth within the company? 20. What ongoing efforts are being made to improve diversity and inclusion within the company, and what are the long-term goals?

I want to give a shout out to the Leopard Network. While I didn't end up at a company that works with Leopard, I still benefitted greatly from not only all of the study resources and study sessions they give, but the community as a whole. I was able to read many stories and so much advice from people who were going through the same things I was and it vastly helped while I navigated life after a layoff. I really appreciate everything Lexi Lewtan and Leopard.FYI are doing and would highly suggest companies work with them to reach fantastic candidates!

I still have beta spots open for jobba.help—a free job application tracker that saves you from tedious data entry. Oh, and it’s open-source, so if you like building, you can contribute too 👀 (writers, Discord power users, devs—y’all are welcome). If you're job hunting (or just curious), sign up and give it a spin. ➡️ just email me your Gmail address at help@jobba.help Otherwise, I’ll have to keep making cheesy canva videos, and nobody wants that. 😅

Day 65/100: Secret Weapon for Women and Non-Binary Engineers Looking for a New Role 👩💻 ... Leopard.FYI! Here's the story of how I found it. I had gotten a referral to a role 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧. In an interview with the hiring manager, I made it to my last question for her: "Why are you interest in talking to me, and do you have any concerns about hiring me?" Leopard.FYI would refer to this as a "pulse check". I used this question as a tool to have a frank conversation with hiring managers about where I stood as a candidate in their eyes. She ultimately shared that I lacked some of the foundation in full stack software engineering that they were looking for, but she went on to recommend Leopard.FYI as a resource. Since applying to this free community that connects women and non-binary engineers with vetted companies with great cultures, I received multiple leads to jobs that fit the bill of what I was looking for. Although I didn't find my job through Leopard, I gained valuable interview experience through some of the leads it generated for me and received support and guidance from the community's team members. In the end, it boosted morale by making me feel like I wasn't alone in this search and sending applications into the void. I also barely scratched the surface in terms of taking advantage of all of the resources available in this community. Thank you Lexi Lewtan in particular for your support. #womeninstem #techcareers #techresources

Day 63/100: Over 800 job applications later... Today is my first day as a Data Science Engineer at Disney! These are my top 5 tips for recruiting in tech right now: 1. Ask for help. Find a mentor! I also joined the Never Search Alone and Leopard.FYI communities, each of which provided support throughout this process. 2. Mindset - focus on what you want in a job rather than your fear of remaining unemployed. Saying yes to the wrong opportunity is a loss for everyone involved. 3. Simplify resume to the nth degree. Make recruiters' lives easier and get more interviews by being ruthless in cutting the fluff. 4. Don't waste time and energy applying for jobs that you are unqualified for. It's a competitive market, you'll need to be a competitive candidate. Instead, focus on what you are already good at! 5. Document your recruiting journey on some medium. It will connect you with others and encourage reflection and iteration. There's also the potential to build an online presence in your industry of choice. Best of luck to those recruiting, your silver lining will come through 🤞 #techrecruiting #techcareers #dataengineer

A tip no one asked for but I'll share anyways because I'm just seeing so much of it! If you feel like you are a PERFECT fit for a role but aren't getting past the application stage, it's likely your resume. More often than not, I'm seeing resumes with oh so many bullets under each job. Too many bullets can indicate that you are not a structured communicator or good 'story teller'. How to adjust: Try and limit the bullets to about 5. If you feel that those 5 don't fully capture your achievements, section them off into themes or categories. *** I'd also recommend dropping all of your bullets into ChatGPT and asking it to consolidate or "make more concise"
