I samband med utställningen The Great Repair Moves North anordnas två tillfällen för School of Repair. ––––––––– #1 STUDIERESA: WORKING WITH THE EXISTING PLATS: Platsbesök i Smedstorp och Gärsnäs TID: Fredag 13 sep, kl 13.00–20.00 FÖR VEM: Alla KOSTNAD: 300 kr (inkl. buss + mat) ANMÄLAN: Anmäl dig här: https://lnkd.in/dqWw8TPR SPRÅK: Engelska #2 WORKSHOP: TOWARDS A REPARATIVE MATERIAL PRACTICE PLATS: Palmgatans Kollektivverkstad TID: Lördag 14 sep, kl 09.00–16.00 FÖR VEM: Alla KOSTNAD: 300 kr (inkl. mat, fika, material) ANMÄLAN: Anmäl dig här: https://lnkd.in/dNDGaW2R ––––––––– Utställningen The Great Repair Moves North öppnar tisdagen den 10 september på Form/Design Center.

The renovation and extension of Design Museum Gent, by Carmody Groarke, includes a collaboration turning waste streams from the city of Ghent into the museum’s new brick facade. As main constituents of the DING-brick, crushed glass and crushed concrete convey value from the city’s secondary urban resource streams - in a circular system. The production method of Compressed Blocks is the same, whether using excavated earth and/or other urban residual resource - BC materials from formulation to production. If interested in Compressed Blocks within the Nordic Countries - contact Lerkultur to discuss your projects specific formulation and production of circular building blocks, from regional residual resources.

Thanks to CITA for the Symposium, bringing forward the agenda of Repair, Care, and Adaptation in a broken world context! Kiel Moe, FAAR, FAIA, Case: Salk Institute for Biological Studies          “To tend a building is to design in consonance with inevitable change — and to understand this change as a desirable expression of material properties, site dynamics, inter-species coexistence, and the behavior of buildings and their contexts over time.” #https://lnkd.in/dkNacgSn

Un-stabilized earthen buildings are naturally eroding, from the water, wind, and other agents acting on the building. Rather than a defect, we regard this material weathering as design discourse, solved through the overall design of the building, and bespoke erosion checks detailed and embedded within the earthen walls. From local Geo-resource, earthen buildings manifest material practice, -value, and -velocities, in architecture. Concepts of care, maintenance, and building tending are intrinsic to earthen building materials, from design to execution. If needed, un-stabilized earthen architecture will always be repairable, and the material recyclable and intact. Besides the embodied energy, creating healthy microclimates with thermal and hygroscopic capacities, earthen secondary materials presents larger terrestrial dimensions of what building is. Supporting local ecology and economy. Haus Rauch, ERDEN

Breaking the glass ceiling – After overcoming all kinds of technical, bureaucratic, and imaginative hurdles, atop a forest of columns, our final earth-timber composite slabs now rest in the HORTUS building in Allschwil, Switzerland. These ground-breaking, eyebrow-raising floors cover 12,000 square metres of ground area. Semi-automated production, hand-crafted finishing, fully prefabricated, the vaulted storeys now offer proof of possibility. An in-the-flesh built example of horizontal building structure made from natural and regenerative materials at a commercial scale. Adding mass for improved indoor climate and energy efficiency without the carbon trade-off that usually comes with it, these floor slabs have the potential to save 40-60% of a building’s embodied CO2 if they replace conventional concrete slabs. Not to mention the stunning visual benefits. We aren’t stopping here, our work continues as we develop new design variations and refine the production process. Keep looking up. More to come. In collaboration with Blumer Lehmann and Herzog & de Meuron. Fully loadbearing Rammed Earth construction, from local and secondary raw materials. A circular nature-based approach to building by ERDEN Project from Allen + Crippa Architektur https://lnkd.in/dFffBCP8
