Writing letters of joy and positivity to thousands of seniors around the world
About us
Loneliness is a well-documented issue that impacts seniors’ mental health and their physical well-being. Founders Shreya and Saffron believe there is something we can all do to help the situation and established Letters Against Isolation during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then LAI has expanded to serve senior communities across the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. LAI's mission is to fight senior loneliness one letter at a time through handwritten messages of love, hope, and joy. Since April of 2020, more than 75,000 people in 15 countries have volunteered with the organization, sending more than 825,000 cards and letters around the world. We’re proud to partner with students, universities, corporations, libraries, care facilities and more in a variety of ways to keep bringing kindness, creativity and cheer to thousands of seniors each week.

To our volunteers in Canada or sending letters to Canada, this week's newsletter included a note from co-founder Shreya regarding the current postal strike. Please hold your letters until service resumes. #canada #canadapostalstrike #postalstrike #letterstoseniors #lettersagainstisolation

Thank you Brad Aronson for highlighting Letters Against Isolation in your new book HumanKind! We're honored to be part of something that showcases all the good in the world. #lettersagainstisolation #humankind #dogood #bekind #giveback
These two teenagers built a global nonprofit that has served more than a million people... Concerned that their grandmother was isolated during COVID, teenage sisters Shreya and Saffron Patel began calling daily. Then the sisters decided to send letters to their grandmother and other seniors. They expected a two-week project, but they were wrong. Word got out about the letters’ impact and the requests poured in. The sisters responded by building a nonprofit, and since April 2020, more than seventy-five thousand volunteers have sent almost a million letters to isolated seniors in the U.S., Australia, Canada and the U.K. Letters Against Isolation (https://lnkd.in/epQSqTDb) plans to expand to other countries as it finds local volunteers to support those efforts. ✉️ One of the things I love about teaching teenagers and young adults is their willingness to try something. As adults we can be weighed down by decades of experience. Our experience tells us that something will be a waste of time or won’t work. Teens are more likely to give something a try and see where it goes… Shreya and Saffron’s story, along with dozens of others, is in the book HumanKind, which is filled with true feel-good stories about how one small deed can make a world of difference. As the holiday season approaches, we're sharing a reminder on sending cards to our seniors. In the spirit of inclusivity, we focus on non-denominational, winter-themed cards that celebrate the New Year, bringing warmth and joy without referencing specific holidays. Many seniors, especially those without families, find comfort in messages that celebrate the season and foster a sense of connection. This year, let’s brighten their January days with cheerful designs and winter themes. Read the full guidelines and inspirational ideas in the recent blog: https://lnkd.in/eDubgZP6 #happymail #makesomeonesmile #sendmoremail #holiday #lettersagainstisolation #letterstsoseniors #giveback #volunteer

Thank you U.S. Bank volunteers for brightening the days of 100 seniors with your letters! Not only is Letters Against Isolation accepting letters through the rest of 2024, but we're looking for volunteers and letters all year long! You get to impact someone else's life, and volunteering is flexible - you write only when you can and would like to. See how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/duaTDxf #lettersagainstisolation #letterstoseniors #volunteer #giveback #socialconnection #seniorhealth #makesomeonesmile #groupevent
Recently coordinated an event with Letters Against Isolation to write handwritten cards that will soon be sent out to homes across the country in hopes to bring a smile to a stranger's face. This is an amazing organization that helps fight senior loneliness one letter at a time. Thank you to the volunteers at U.S. Bank across the Midwest that were able to join either in person or virtually to create over 100 cards that will be sent out. It is not too late to meet those volunteer goals for 2024 if you have not done so yet. This organization will be collecting letters throughout the rest of the year if you are interested! #MakeADifference #HelpingOthers #CommunityPossible

Even small groups can create a big impact! Thank you volunteers at Greystar for bringing joy to your team and then sharing it with seniors. ❤️ #lettersagainstisolation #groupevent #makesomeonesday #giveback #volunteer #combatloneliness
Had a great time creating cards for Letters Against Isolation with my team at The Foundmore. The cards will be sent to local residents who may need an extra bit of joy in their day. This is one of the many awesome initiatives Greystar partakes in to not only bring a little joy to our teams, but also to make a strangers day. #GreystarGivesBack #TheFoundmore

Thank you to our friends at Richmond Vona, LLC for creating social connection with seniors by sending these beautiful letters as part of their community outreach this month. We're grateful for your partnership - and we love sharing pictures of our pets too!
🌟 This month for community outreach, our team worked with Letters Against Isolation to write letters for seniors. ❤️ Letters Against Isolation is a program that aims to reduce senior loneliness for those who are residents in assisted living facilities and care homes. Letters written and sent through LAI are distributed to seniors who do not have many visitors or receive many letters. We packed our letters full of love, joy, and empathy to connect with our new friends! 💌 Read more about how community involvement and service is not only one of our core values, but a top priority at Richmond Vona: https://bit.ly/3Yn7Oir
