Acknowledging the time, expertise, and lived experiences of community members is essential to building trust and creating meaningful collaboration. Compensation ensures that everyone, regardless of financial situation, can participate fully and equitably in shaping policies, programs, and initiatives. Compensating participants is about more than fairness—it’s about valuing their contributions and taking actionable steps toward equity. By doing so, we honor the communities we work with and work to close gaps in representation and access. How does your organization prioritize equity in its practices? #EquityInAction #CompensateFairly #Inclusion #LighthouseGlobal #CommunityEngagement

Workshops thrive when every voice has the chance to be heard. The magic in our workshops starts from the very beginning. We use activities that are fun and engaging to set the tone, build trust, and create a safe environment. When participants feel comfortable and valued, they are more willing to share, listen, and contribute meaningfully. Balancing individual reflection with group collaboration ensures that ideas flow freely and every perspective is part of the conversation. This intentional approach helps us achieve deeper insights and more impactful outcomes. What strategies do you use to create safe and productive spaces in your workshops? We’d love to hear your thoughts. #WorkshopDesign #InclusiveFacilitation #CollaborativeLearning #LighthouseGlobal #CommunityEngagement

We’re excited to announce a new series on our core values at Lighthouse Global! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing insights into what drives us: from social equity and cultural responsiveness to systems change and collaboration. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the principles that shape our work and mission. Here is our first value: At Lighthouse Global, social equity, cultural responsiveness, anti-racism, and inclusion are not just values—they are the foundation of our work. We commit ourselves to these principles by continuously reflecting on our own privilege and blind spots. By using culturally responsive data collection methods, we ensure that the diverse perspectives of the communities we work with are always at the center of our efforts. Our approach is about more than just gathering data—it’s about ensuring that everyone’s voice is represented and that our work drives true, equitable change. #SocialEquity #CulturalResponsiveness #Inclusion #AntiRacism #LighthouseGlobal #CommunityEngagement

At Lighthouse Global, we’ve worked with both approaches and know the strengths each brings. Quantitative research provides the hard numbers—trends, patterns, and measurable data. Qualitative research uncovers the stories and experiences behind those numbers, adding context and depth. We often prefer mixed methods because they combine the best of both: the reliability of data with the richness of personal insights. Whether you need the numbers, the stories, or a blend of both, the choice depends on your project goals. The right method will always be the one that helps you reach your objectives. #QualVsQuant #MixedMethods #HardData #CompellingStories #LighthouseGlobal #ResearchInsights #DataDrivenDecisions

Not every research project requires a fully representative sample. In some cases, non-probability sampling is the more practical option. With non-probability sampling researchers select individuals based on the subjective judgment, and it is useful when accommodating population, budget, or specific research goals. Whether it’s convenience sampling, purposive sampling, or snowball sampling, non-probability methods can provide valuable insights when generalization isn’t the primary goal. At Lighthouse Global, we use non-probability sampling when the research calls for targeted or exploratory insights, or when access to the full population is limited. The key is choosing a method that aligns with your research objectives and constraints.

Thanks to Cristina Rodriguez, Principal at Lighthouse Global for sharing this article from her and her partner's perspective on the term Latinx. This is an important conversation in the nonprofit sector because the words we use matter. It comes during #HispanicHeritageMonth, a month to celebrate the achievements, histories, traditions, diversity, and vibrant culture of Hispanic and Latine Americans. What better way to honor the Latin Community than by learning from each other and considering the perspectives of the population these terms most impact. Take a few minutes to read the article!

Surveys and polls are both effective tools for gathering feedback, but they serve different purposes depending on your goals. Polls are quick, single-question tools ideal for capturing a snapshot of opinions or preferences. Use them when you need real-time insights on a specific topic or decision. Think of them as a pulse check. Surveys, on the other hand, are more comprehensive, often with multiple questions that explore a topic in depth. They’re perfect when you need detailed feedback or data that can be analyzed for trends and patterns. At Lighthouse Global, we use polls for instant feedback on focused topics and surveys when deeper exploration and more detailed responses are needed. Choosing the right tool depends on what you want to achieve!
