Today, Stefan Unnasch from Life Cycle Associates and Steffen Mueller from the Energy Resources Center (ERC) spoke about how the aviation industry can be decarbonized through biofuels that can be blended into jet fuels. One of the ERC research groups is focused on life cycle greenhouse gas emissions analyses of bioenergy and clean transportation options, including sustainable aviation fuels. We quantified the climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices highlighted in this week’s 40BSAF-GREET 2024 release for the #IRA. The #CSA practices, in the red box, include: cover crops, no-till farming, and enhanced efficiency nitrogen fertilizers like green ammonia. According to DOE, feedstock can account for up to 38 percent of total GHG emissions for corn to ethanol and ethanol to jet processes.
