We are thrilled to welcome Mike Huckman from Real Chemistry as our newest Board of Advisor! He is excited to join as an advisor and further LSC’s mission to better our local communities and provide services to those in need. Welcome Mike!   Mike Huckman is the Global Practice Leader of Executive Communications at Real Chemistry. He is an in-demand communications coach and consultant to dozens of companies in the life sciences ecosystem, senior leaders, venture capitalists, and academic researchers. From his background as a seasoned TV news reporter who covered the sector for nearly a decade at CNBC and his experience as a consultant since 2010, Mike has burnished a distinctive approach to life sciences communications. He has earned a reputation as a trusted advisor across the life sciences field.   Mike is also a member of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization's Board of Directors, where he has served on the Emerging Companies Section since 2022. He's a broadcast journalism graduate of the University of Southern California where he also served on the Alumni Advisory Board of the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.  

We are thrilled to welcome Amanda Murphy, CFA as our newest Board of Advisor! She is excited to join as an Advisor and to further LSC’s mission to better our local communities and provide services to those in need. Welcome Amanda! Amanda Murphy joined the CZ Biohub Chicago as Chief Operating Officer in September 2023. Murphy spent much of her career as a tenured healthcare senior equity research analyst and a partner at William Blair & Company, L.L.C., covering various life sciences services, tools & diagnostics, and biotech companies. Most recently, she has held various roles across finance and corporate development. As CFO of MaxCyte, she spearheaded cross-over and IPO financings, raising $300 million in capital. Murphy developed corporate development experience as Head of M&A and External Innovation at Ginkgo Bioworks and served as Chief Development Officer for DA32 Life Science Tech Acquisition Corp (a partnership between Arch Venture Partners, Deerfield Management, and venture capital firm Section 32). She has an MBA from Northwestern University majoring in accounting, finance, and economics, holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and has a Bachelor of Science from Boston College’s Honors Program.

We are thrilled to welcome Stan Lapidus as our newest Board of Advisor! He is excited to join as an Advisor and to further LSC’s mission to better our local communities and provide services to those in need. Welcome Stan! Stan Lapidus is an inventor and entrepreneur. He serves on a number of diagnostics company boards, including Mercy BioAnalytics, Inc. of which he is board chair. He was the founding CEO of three medical diagnostics companies. Two of them have been notable. Cytyc Corp., which he founded in 1987, revolutionized the early detection of cervical cancer by developing the modern Pap test, the ThinPrep. The two prototypes are at the Smithsonian’s American Museum of National History. Over two billion ThinPreps have been performed. EXACT Sciences, which he founded in 1995, pioneered non-invasive early detection of colorectal cancer through its Cologuard test. Exact recently announced that since FDA approval, it believes Cologuard has prevented or detected early over 600,000 cancers or pre-cancers. Stan holds 38 US patents. He served as a senior lecturer at MIT from 2001 to 2017. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Stan graduated from Cooper Union in New York City with a BS degree in electrical engineering.

Rod is a former C-suite executive who previously served as SVP, Chief of Staff to the CEO, and Head of Strategy & Transformation at Roche Diagnostics, the North American headquarters of the world’s largest ($17B) diagnostics company. Previously, he held leadership and sales positions at Baxter International Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline Pharma GmbH. Savoy Magazine recognized Mr. Cotton as one of the most influential 2024 corporate directors and 2022 executives in Corporate America. He was also named one of 2023's Top Blacks in Healthcare by BlackDoctor.org. After retiring from Roche, Mr. Cotton serves on a mix of public and private corporate boards, including Castle Biosciences, Eisai Pharmaceuticals, Moleculara Biosciences, Orchard Software, General Genomics, Community Health Network, and Meharry Medical College. Additionally, Mr. Cotton is a Venture Partner for 2Flo Ventures, LLC.

2024 was another year of impact for Life Science Cares.
