  • Empowering Sustainable Solutions to Combat Food Insecurity On November 1st, Lift the Children, in collaboration with G-BiACK, organized a monthly training session for over 64 directors of children’s homes, focusing on agroecology to enhance agricultural skills and foster sustainable strategies within their facilities. 🌱 This session was a unique opportunity for leaders to gain practical insights into sustainable agriculture—skills that can directly address food insecurity and reduce reliance on external food sources. The training covered everything from indigenous seed saving to composting and creating natural pesticides. Touring G-BIACK’s farm brought these principles into focus, showcasing sustainable approaches that strengthen resilience and self-sufficiency. This initiative exemplifies the power of sustainable solutions in community settings. By equipping these directors with valuable agroecology skills, we are enabling them to cultivate nutritious, sustainable food sources, creating a lasting impact on the children they serve. #LiftTheChildren #G-BiACK #Agroecology #FoodSecurity #SustainableSolutions #CommunityImpact

  • Strengthening Care Through Debriefing: Essential for Trauma-Informed Support At Lift the Children, we understand the immense emotional and mental toll placed on caregivers working with children who have experienced trauma. Our commitment to high standards of care remains unwavering, even as we embrace care reform and work towards exiting children from institutional care. This month, we held a special debriefing session for directors of our partner children’s homes. Debriefing plays a crucial role in trauma-informed care by providing a safe space for directors and caregivers to process the emotional challenges they face. It helps prevent burnout, promotes mental health, and strengthens their ability to continue offering compassionate, effective care to vulnerable children. Through the session, we not only addressed the struggles caregivers face but also empowered them with strategies to better support the children in their care. It’s a vital part of ensuring that our homes remain safe, nurturing environments where children can heal and thrive. Debriefing serves as a powerful tool to rejuvenate caregivers, allowing them to reflect on their experiences, address emotional challenges, and renew their commitment to the children they support. These sessions not only reinforce the resilience of our caregivers but also equip them with the emotional and practical tools necessary to navigate their vital roles effectively. By supporting our caregivers through debriefing, we ensure that they continue to provide a nurturing and stable environment, helping children thrive during their transition and beyond. #CaregiverSupport #TraumaInformedCare #LiftTheChildren #Debriefing #MentalHealth #ChildWelfare #EmpoweringCaregivers

  • Celebrating 15 Years of Impact with Lift the Children! This year marks a significant milestone—15 years of unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable children in Africa. On 9th August 2024, We celebrated the 15th Anniversary of our impact in supporting vulnerable children in Africa. Led by our African team headed by Mary Kamau{ MA), Lift the Children's Country Director, the anniversary celebration was a celebration of our achievements and an opportunity to honour the incredible journey of our founder, John Volken. Follow this link to listen to John's story of resilience and compassion https://lnkd.in/df9z9mfH In 2009, inspired by his visit to Kenya, John established Lift the Children, which had the vision of supporting vulnerable children. Over the past 15 years, Lift the Children has evolved from helping over 200 orphanages to focusing on smaller children’s homes, where we provide not only financial support but also mentorship, psychological counselling, and capacity-building for caregivers. Today, we serve 58 children’s homes across Kenya, Uganda, and Liberia, supporting over 2,500 children. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of John Volken, Chawna Volken, our advisory committee including Susan Richards, and our many donors. Our partners have also played a great role in making this possible. Thank you Diana MG Achieng through Road To Mentorship the partnership in offering mentorship to our youths. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated founders and directors of the children's homes we support. Your tireless efforts are the foundation of our success. Lastly, we celebrate the incredible children we serve. Your strength and spirit inspire us every day. You are the heart of Lift the Children, and we are honored to be part of your journey. As we look forward to the future, we remain committed to our mission of uplifting vulnerable children, just as our founder, John Volken, has shown us through his unwavering dedication and compassion. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Together, we will continue to make a difference—one child at a time. #LiftTheChildren #15YearsOfImpact #Empowerment #Education #Africa #SupportVulnerableChildren #JohnVolken

  • Empowering Child Welfare Practitioners: Elevating Case Management Skills At Lift the Children, we believe in empowering those who care for children with the tools and knowledge they need to make a profound impact. Last week, we had the privilege of hosting a transformative three-day training in case management for reintegration, where 25 dedicated child welfare practitioners from various children's homes in Nairobi gathered to enhance their skills. Why Case Management Skills Matter: Case management is at the heart of effective child welfare practice. It involves not only tracking and coordinating the various aspects of a child's care but also ensuring that each child’s unique needs are met with compassion and efficiency. The skills gained in case management training are crucial for: Streamlining Care Coordination: Ensuring that all services and support systems work harmoniously for the child's benefit. Enhancing Communication: Improving interactions between caregivers, social workers, and other stakeholders. Optimizing Resource Utilization: Making the best use of available resources to address each child’s specific needs. Supporting Successful Reintegration: Facilitating the smooth transition of children back into family or community settings. Our recent training focused on equipping these practitioners with practical tools and strategies to manage cases effectively, with the ultimate goal of supporting children’s successful reintegration into their communities. We are incredibly proud of the commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated by all participants and are excited to see how these enhanced skills will further elevate the quality of care provided. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of the children we serve. #ChildWelfare #CaseManagement #Training #ChildReintegration #LiftTheChildren #Empowerment #ProfessionalDevelopment
