  • Building, creating, and learning—all in a day’s play! At Little Sunshine’s Playhouse, we’re helping young minds grow through hands-on experiences, block by block. Watching our little builders work together, problem-solve, and bring their ideas to life is a reminder of how powerful open-ended play can be. What are some of your favorite ways to encourage teamwork and creativity in young learners? #STEAM #HandsOnLearning #EarlyChildhoodEducation #LSPKids

  • Who needs fancy tools when creativity is the real foundation for great ideas? With just cups, recycled materials, and a little imagination, our young architects are showing that big ideas start with simple materials. Do you remember when you were a kid—when play was all about cardboard boxes, building forts, and stacking whatever you could find? Those simpler days sparked some of the best creativity. How can we bring that kind of open-ended, hands-on play back for children today? What are some simple ways to encourage creativity without screens or structured toys? #STEAM #HandsOnLearning #Imagination #LearningWithLSP

  • This week, we’re learning about Benjamin Banneker, a brilliant mathematician and surveyor who played a key role in designing Washington, D.C. using advanced math skills. To celebrate his legacy, our little learners are creating their own “Shape City.” Using tape to map out roads and blocks to build structures, they’re exploring shapes, spatial awareness, and early mapping skills—just like Banneker. Math isn’t just for the classroom—it’s all around us. From measuring ingredients while cooking to spotting patterns in nature or reading maps on a road trip, there are so many ways to make math meaningful in everyday life. How do you bring math to life outside of school? What are some creative ways you encourage children to explore numbers, shapes, and problem-solving in daily routines? Let’s share ideas and celebrate the many ways young learners can experience math in the world around them. #BlackHistoryMonth #STEAM #Mathematicians #BenjaminBanneker #CanYouBuildIt

  • Meet another incredible trailblazer, Beverly Loraine Greene. As the first Black female licensed architect in the U.S., Greene helped design iconic structures like the UNESCO Headquarters. To celebrate her legacy, our little architects are exploring “Building with Blocks”—diving into blueprints and creating their own imaginative designs. Introducing young learners to architecture and design can be as simple as exploring famous buildings, experimenting with different materials for construction, or encouraging open-ended block play. Hands-on activities like blueprint drawing, bridge building, and designing structures with recycled materials can spark curiosity and problem-solving skills. How do you introduce young learners to the world of architecture and design? What are some of your favorite STEAM activities that encourage creativity and innovation? Share your ideas and inspire the next generation of builders and innovators. #BlackHistoryMonth #STEAM #BeverlyLoraineGreene #CanYouBuildIt

Celebrating Loris Malaguzzi: The Visionary Behind the Reggio Emilia Approach - Little Sunshine's Playhouse and Preschool

  • This week, we celebrate Loris Malaguzzi, the visionary behind the Reggio Emilia philosophy. His belief in the power of child-led, open-ended learning continues to shape the way we nurture young minds at Little Sunshine’s Playhouse. What’s truly inspiring? This philosophy doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our families embraced Reggio at home, and the results were incredible—loose parts, nature creations, and dramatic play that sparked imagination and deep learning. For educators: How do you bring Reggio-inspired learning into your classroom? For parents: What’s one way you encourage open-ended play at home? For early childhood leaders: How can we better support environments that foster exploration, curiosity, and creativity? Let’s share ideas and continue advocating for meaningful, child-led learning experiences together. #AtHome #LorisMalaguzzi #ReggioInspired #LSPFamily #EarlyChildhoodEducation #PlayBasedLearning

  • This week in STEAM, we’re learning about David Crosthwait Jr., a brilliant engineer and inventor who designed heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for famous buildings like Radio City Music Hall! To bring his work to life, our little engineers are experimenting with airflow in our “Build a Wind Tunnel” activity! Using a cardboard box and a small fan, they’ll drop feathers, paper, and cotton balls to see how air moves through structures—just like real engineers designing ventilation systems! #BlackHistoryMonth #Technology #DavidCrosthwaitJr #STEAM hashtag#CanYouBuildIt
