“In our everyday ordinary lives, we are coexisting and working and thriving with people of different political views all the time. We just kind of have amnesia a bit in this country at the moment about how to transfer some of those normal skills of getting along with each other and treating each other with respect." Dr June Klees, instructor at Bay State College . If we can connect with the shared humanity of those around us, we can put people first and politics second. That's the only way we can move forward as a country. Join us at https://lnkd.in/g2vS6VnP

Living Room Conversations reposted this
It's been a long couple of weeks, friends. But one thing I keep hearing over and over again is that it's so hard to have deep conversations about topics like #politics. If you are in Central Illinois and your group or organization would like to host a discussion like from Living Room Conversations - please let me know! My organization Sunshine Strategies would be happy to facilitate a session like this! https://lnkd.in/gfA69QKN

Amid excitement, disappointment, fear, and celebration, there is A LOT to talk about. Due to popular demand, we have schedule ANOTHER Post-Election: Moving Forward Together event, hosted by Annie Caplan. No matter how you voted, come and participate in a safe and civil conversation, talking about all the complex and controversial feelings about Donald Trump's recent victory. This event is a part of our #GivingTuesday fundraising. Each ticket is donation-based. Link below: https://lnkd.in/gMv9ND27

Now is the time to celebrate UNITY! A living room can be anywhere you need it to be. In Savannah, Georgia, they proved it! At the Peace in the Park event, The Mediation Center and International Peace Building powerfully brought our resources to their community. They modeled a conversation on stage first, then people participated in their own afterwards. Both youth and adults talked about Cancel Culture, Trust, and AI. With hundreds of attendees and dozens of participants, it's amazing to see all the great bridges being build. Follow their example by hosting your own conversation today.

In the wake of another divisive election season, let us unite together as people against polarization. David French, political commentator and former attorney, spoke at Brigham Young University and urged the audience members to put relationships over rhetoric. Only through close-knit friendship and empathy can we heal our country, so that we can build a better tomorrow. Regardless if your candidate won or lost, we are all Americans and we all deserve respect and understanding

No matter how the ballots are cast tomorrow, MILLIONS of Americans will be upset and disappointed. The key to a thriving democracy is to accept the results of an election no matter what they are and to work together to build a better country moving forward. In order to foster this feeling of community and democratic values post-election, join us for a special hosted conversation on the 12th! This event allows us to hold onto our shared humanity alongside our differences, and explore how we can build on our common ideals whether we feel as though we “won” or “lost” during the election. https://lnkd.in/guwPzMs8
