We design for community

About us

Through a thoughtful design process and always in collaboration with our clients and stakeholders, we produce creative solutions that add value while meeting a project’s objectives. Most of our work is with repeat clients because we care about our relationships and respect our clients’ aspirations, budgets, and schedules. Our creative process enhances our mission to design richer, more dynamic places in considered, intelligent ways. A successful design practice creates a working environment that is relaxed and inspirational, yet focused on providing the best possible service to its clients. We are skilled designers, architects, and managers with diverse backgrounds who support a collaborative workplace. Each new team member is assigned a mentor who introduces them to the office culture and process. This relationship continues throughout the full term of employment and gives the entire staff insight, training, and a voice in the growth and success of our firm. Many people ask us about our name. To us, it best reflects what we seek to achieve in our work: revealing the distinctive character of a place that leaves an impression in one’s mind. Sustainable design is now a core value of our industry and it is virtually impossible to build a project without a component that has been redesigned due to its environmental impact. As designers we share our expertise with clients and promote resource stewardship in our daily operations. As citizens we participate in community and government efforts that support restoration, preservation, and responsible development. One of our founding principles was to design healthy, beautiful spaces and buildings; over twenty years later, it continues to be our mission.

  • Our team designed a complete renovation of a private residence located on Manhattan's East Side in Midtown. The project required precision and a careful selection of materials, resulting in interiors crafted to exacting standards. The home features custom furniture and art - each selected or commissioned by the client to add a personal touch to the space. Drawing inspiration from the mid-20th century design of the building, the interior is finished in a mix of plaster, walnut, cherry, white oak with steel trim accents, and teak wood panels. The kitchen floor has flamed Inca grey stone tiles and honed Bohemian stone for the countertops and backsplashes. In the bathrooms and dressing room, there are porcelain tiles with Calacatta wall tiles and Carrara marble countertops. The entire palette was made possible thanks to the client's unwavering commitment to bringing a custom design vision to life at the highest level. #privateresidence #interiordesign #architecture Sighte Studio, LLC INC Architecture and Design IP PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING, PC Luciana Godinho Tim Keesee

Edward A. Jose, AIA LEED AP and Daniela Tapia, RA of Loci Architecture had the opportunity to visit the Glen-Gery brick factory. They engaged in the processes of mixing, molding, and firing their own bricks, gaining valuable hands-on experience. This visit was part of the award for Ed's distinguished curved brick design, which won Glen-Gery's Inaugural Architect Shapes Collaboration Contest this past summer. A meaningful day in the pursuit of architectural excellence.

Privileged to continue our partnership with Prospect Schools, we transformed a landmarked 43,000 sf parochial school into a vibrant K-6 elementary charter school for 470 students. Our design prioritized both brightness and economy, featuring spacious, high-ceiling classrooms that maximize natural light. A soothing color palette and acoustical ceiling treatments foster a focused and calming learning atmosphere. This revitalized building not only honors its historic roots but also inspires the next generation of learners. #charterschool #schooldesign #brooklyn

Loci recently developed a design vision for our client in the Gowanus manufacturing district, aligning with the City’s initiative to rejuvenate Industrial Business Zones (IBZs) throughout the city and enhance their roles as vital hubs for work and commerce. Our proposal includes upzoning an existing block with assembled tax lots as a model for expanding manufacturing within the local IBZ. To streamline commercial traffic and deliveries, we designed a dedicated internal street with loading docks for each building, enhancing business visibility and community access. The design supports our client’s vision for the district with several key features: multi-level gardens offering essential open space, large open plans with freight elevator access for flexible light industry and artisanal use, and photovoltaic panels to offset on-site energy needs. The brick facade, featuring the historic “Kentile” lettering, honors the district's heritage while maximizing natural daylight and incorporating shading devices to reduce solar heat gain. It all started at an apartment with a breathtaking view and a heartbreaking bathroom. While the original bathroom design might have worked for some people, the “sliced meat” aesthetic was neither our client’s preference nor ours. With the help of the amazing contractor OCA BUILDERS INC, our lighting consultant Sighte Studio, LLC, and Electronic Lifestyles LLC., the apartment - and its main bathroom - received a fresh makeover, resulting in a beautiful residence with views north and across the Hudson River - the best of both worlds. #architecture #interiordesign #renovation #privateresidence
