🇵🇹 Did you know Lisbon locals are known as Lisboetas or Alfacinhas? Neither did we until our data guru and very own Lisboeta José Maria d'Orey da Cunha pointed it out. José takes us on a tour of the hilly capital of Portugal, known for its vibrant culture, historic architecture, and scenic views along the Tagus River. First stop though, all the delicious food offerings. 🍽️ 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 Work your way through the ABC of Portuguese staples: 🍚 A for Arroz (Rice): The Portuguese consume as much as 16 kg of rice per capita per year, exceeding the European average by four times. You can find rice with tomato, rice with coriander, rice with duck, rice with seafood, rice with octopus and many other rice recipes. 🍞 B is for Bread: Try “carcaça”, a traditional Portuguese bread with a crusty exterior and soft, airy interior. It reminds Ze of his childhood. Most restaurants make nice meat sandwiches called “prego no pão”. 🐟 C is for Codfish: Try “Meia Desfeita”, a codfish salad with chickpeas, garlic, onions, parsley, eggs and olives (and olive oil, obviously!) or “Bacalhau à Bráz” codfish with crisps, scrambled eggs and olives. 🍮 Got a sweet tooth? Indulge with the best Pasteis de Nata in town at A Manteigaria, or or Chocolate Salami balls at O Lisboeta. They are both amazing. 🏛️ 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Get a glimpse of the Portuguese tile history at Museu do Azulejo (Tile museum) - Check out the amazing art collection (both old & contemporary artworks) at Gulbenkian, and wander around the beautiful garden - Head to the Miradouro do Recolhimento, giving you a panoramic view of old Lisbon - Watch the sun set by the river close to Belem Tower 🚶𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 - Discover Mouraria, a multicultural neighbourhood, home to a vibrant community of immigrants - Check out Campo de Ourique: charming, upscale neighbourhood in Lisbon known for its tree-lined streets, elegant boutiques, and lively cafes and popular food hall (mercado de campo de ourique). ☀ 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹? May and June are perfect. Jacaranda trees are blooming, the whole city is partying around June 13th, and the first beach days are in full swing. 🚃 𝗙𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱: 𝗚𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮 A fairytale town filled with palaces and gardens. Lush and green, it’s the perfect destination for those seeking a blend of nature and cultural experiences. Explore the numerous palaces, like Palácio da Vila and Quinta da Regaleira or visit Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Cabo da Roca offers breathtaking ocean views and a sense of solitude. Got any more tips? Share them below 👇 #globalvillage #Lisbon #remotework

Passion for languages, and an innovative mindset, and a talent for story-telling💫 What else could we ask for in a Lokaliser? We're lucky to have Marta on the team, helping us break down language barriers for ecommerce businesses everywhere - Lokalise Flow is in good hands! Join the beta here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g4jc3BAs
"Marta, did you use AI to speak all those languages in your viral video?" I speak 6 languages. When I made this post (https://lnkd.in/dt-42VFW) about my job hunt back in March showing it, I got many people responding in disbelief, assuming I used AI to pull it off. The truth is that I do speak 6 languages, some more fluently than others. I have an accent and I make mistakes. But it’s all part of the learning process. My favorite part of learning a language is actually understanding the cultural nuances. Some words mean completely different things even in the same language. “Concha” in Spain means, “shell” 🐚, and in Argentina... well I’ll let you Google that! With regards to AI, I was always convinced that non-human translations would never be as accurate as a real translator. And while that’s still true, AI’s improvements and evolution are truly impressive. With the right context, AI can create very compelling translations that are at human-level. In the end, I’m happy to say my passion for languages led to to where I am today: working at the intersection of AI and localization at Lokalise, where we’re building a no-code ecommerce translation app powered by AI. Getting human-like translations with minimal resources is now possible with Lokalise Flow, available for Shopify stores – take it from someone that speaks multiple languages and was skeptical about non-human translations. 👉 Join the beta: https://lnkd.in/d6UMXrS6 #Shopify #BetaTesting #Ecommerce #Languages #Localization #Translation ps: you probably had forgotten about the girl that went viral on LinkedIn, since I only post once every few months – my impostor syndrome kicks in every time I decide to post on LinkedIn 🙃. And I often think that I’m missing opportunities due to not being so active. But as we enter the last quarter of the year, I thought it would be a good idea to show up on this platform that has been so kind to me 🫶 so I’m hoping you’ll give this post some love!

🇭🇳 Does anyone know the capital of Honduras? It’s not a city that everyone knows. But our technical support specialist Juan Carlos Martinez Sosa suggests you visit. 👋 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗽𝗮𝗅 The name comes from the Nahuatl language, spoken by Indigenous people in pre-Columbian Central America. - "Teguz" means hills or rock - "Galpa" means silver or place of Once surrounded by mountains rich in silver, mine carts would descend from the hills, delivering the minerals to what is now the heart of Tegucigalpa, El Centro, our Downtown. 👀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲? 🏞️ Central Park (Parque Central), surrounded by historic buildings like the Metropolitan Cathedral, Leona Park (Parque la Leona), which sits on a hill overlooking the city, and Parque Nacional La Tigra, a cloud forest located at a much higher altitude offering trekking, hiking and camping, and a waterfall at the end. ⛪ The Basilica de Suyapa. One of the most important religious sites in Honduras dedicated to the Virgin of Suyapa, the patron saint of Honduras, and a major pilgrimage destination for Catholics throughout Central America. Cristo del Picacho: a large statue of Christ, located in the Parque Nacional El Picacho (El Picacho National Park), which sits on a hill overlooking the city. 🌯 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝘁 Coco-Baleadas: The restaurant is known for putting the Baleada (a traditional Honduran dish) on the map. It’s a thick flour tortilla folded in half and filled with refried beans, cheese, and sour cream. That's the classic version, but you can add extras like eggs, avocado, plantains, meat, or anything else. 9-Patrias - Pricey, but worth it. The food here is just insanely good. Its traditional flavors with modern culinary techniques. 🎨 𝗡𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 Valle de Angeles (Valley of Angels), where you can pick up local handicrafts, including pottery, leather goods, wood carvings, and woven textiles, and Santa Lucia, a popular spot for the locals to get married! Fun fact: I have attended 5+ weddings here! 𝗙𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗿… 🌴 Islas de la Bahía or Bay Islands 🤿 Roatan is one of the most popular islands because you'll find part of the second-largest coral reef in the world here (the Mesoamerican Reef), making it perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. 🪸Cayos Cochinos are a protected marine reserve and an important tourist destination, known for their biodiversity and coral reefs. 🏛️ Copan Ruinas (Copán Ruins) is one of the major cities of the ancient Mayan people. UNESCO declared them a World Heritage Site, recognizing their cultural, historical, and archaeological value. Here, you’ll see the famous Hieroglyphic Stairway. 🦜 Macaw Mountain is a bird sanctuary located near the town of Copán Ruinas in western Honduras. The park is dedicated to the conservation of endangered bird species, particularly macaws, which were considered sacred by the Mayans. #globalvillage #remotework #localization

[𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗕𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥] 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿: Designers, Product Managers or anyone involved in design-stage localization. Design-stage localization is a powerful way to continuously release fully multilingual products like mobile apps, web apps, and games. It allows for the creation of designs suitable for multiple languages and bridges the gap between the designers, developers, and translators working on localization. But talk to fast-growing companies that are agile and rely on continuous development and you’ll quickly realize that design is still treated as an afterthought in product translation and localization. The problem with that is designs will inevitably break since text can expand by up to 30% in some languages, and you'll waste time fixing design breaks and bugs that could have been dealt with from the start. Design-stage localization has emerged as the solution for agile companies that are going global. Admittedly, it requires change and a shift in the way you work. But with the right mindset, tools, and implementation the results can be game changing. Our Senior Solutions Engineer, Joe Brockbank, will show you how to seamlessly integrate localization into your product development to avoid breaking your designs right before launch. ▶ Save your seat: https://lnkd.in/ezfrqXNk #webinar #localization #translation #productdesign
