Today, on Lord, Abbett & Co. LLC 95th anniversary, I am thrilled to make my first post on LinkedIn. Our story is so special that I wanted to share it here, with you. Lord Abbett was founded in the wake of Black Tuesday in 1929. It was a moment of uncertainty and upheaval for Wall Street, for the United States, and for the world. It was that challenging time, and the entrepreneurial spirit that allowed us to navigate through it, that instilled in this firm’s DNA an emphasis on innovation and resilience, and gave rise to our credo, first published in The Wall Street Journal on the day we opened for business. “An investment firm worthy of the name fosters a sound relationship between the house and the client.” It’s as true and as valuable a north star today as it was then. Through decades of change and growth, the many leaders who came before me and helped shape Lord Abbett championed this guiding principle, ensuring that our values remained at the core of our evolution and continue to move us forward. Lord Abbett has changed a lot since 1929. What hasn’t changed, is our commitment to always put the interests of our clients first. Every strategy is active and built on security selection; the quality of our products always comes first; and 100% of our revenues still are derived from active money management. Our credo is now carved in stone in our new offices at 30 Hudson. It is displayed prominently in our office as a daily reminder that our work is grounded in integrity, quality, and a shared purpose. This purpose, delivering for our clients, has remained constant since the firm’s inception. Leading our team at this unique moment in time, I am humbled by the responsibility we have to uphold and build upon the foundation laid by the great leaders who came before us. But that duty also drives me. At this inflection point, as we grow and evolve, our task is clear: to maintain our legacy of leadership and forge a spirit of innovation. We will do this by staying committed to our values of excellence, transparency, responsibility, and collaboration. To our clients and partners, thank you for the trust you place in us.
