Senator Chuck Schumer recently announced that the University of Rochester’s STELLAR Engine project has been selected as one of five NY initiatives advancing in NSF’s Innovation Engines program! STELLAR now competes for up to $160M in federal investment under the CHIPS & Science Law. With $1M already awarded, this project will help bolster a laser and optics tech ecosystem in the Rochester-Finger Lakes region, supporting workforce development and economic growth. Co-led by Luminate’s Dr. Sujatha Ramanujan and other key partners, STELLAR aims to expand opportunities in optics and photonics, reinforcing Rochester as a hub for innovation. It was a full house at the Louis S. Wolk JCC of Greater Rochester for today’s event with the New York-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Inc. focused on Upstate NY’s CHIPs/photonics capabilities. Nearly 100 businesses and community leaders met to discuss opportunities for collaboration with Israel and got to know Israeli startup, NewPhotonics. Our Director of Operations, Veronica LoCurcio, shared how Luminate — the only accelerator in the world dedicated to #optics, #photonics, and #imaging startups — plays a critical role in bolstering Upstate NY’s reputation as a tech hub for CHIPs and photonics. For seven years and counting, Luminate has attracted international OPI #startups to the region to advance their technology and businesses through the program.
