Did You Know? 20% of Cancer Patients Die from Malnutrition In our latest medDesign by Trig podcast episode, Neal Piper, founder of Luminoah, shares a heartbreaking and eye-opening reality: malnutrition claims the lives of 20% of cancer patients—not the disease itself. Neal highlights the outdated and fragmented technology currently used in tube feeding. From handwritten feeding logs to sugary formulas with no nutritional value for specific disease states, Neal’s personal experience as a parent led him to question and ultimately disrupt the status quo. With a background in global healthcare and years at Pfizer, Neal combined his expertise with his family’s journey to create Luminoah—a company dedicated to transforming pediatric nutrition and tube feeding technology. This conversation is more than just innovation; it’s about patient advocacy, resilience, and the mission to give patients and families a brighter future. Watch the full episode to hear Neal's powerful story and his vision for improving lives through smarter, more personalized healthcare solutions. Malnutrition is a silent threat that weakens your ability to fight illness and delays recovery. Cancer patients are especially vulnerable to malnutrition, with treatment side effects like difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, vomiting, and extreme fatigue severely impacting nutritional intake. This Malnutrition Awareness Week— The American Society for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) recommends that cancer patients and their caregivers closely monitor nutritional intake and consult healthcare providers if they notice signs such as weight loss, reduced food intake, or persistent diarrhea. Take action today—nutrition is a vital part of the fight against cancer. #aspenmaw24 https://lnkd.in/eQdKYtE8

Malnutrition is a critical health issue that impacts every system in the body. It can lead to increased infection risks, delayed healing, prolonged hospital stays, and higher mortality rates. During Malnutrition Awareness Week, learn about the warning signs of malnutrition, especially if you or a loved one is managing a chronic illness. Early detection can make a significant difference. https://lnkd.in/eQdKYtE8 #ASPENMAW24

Join Luminoah in supporting Malnutrition Awareness Week™, an international initiative by the American Society for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) to raise awareness, improve diagnosis, and enhance the treatment of malnutrition in patients. When unrecognized and untreated, malnutrition leads to longer hospital stays, doubles the need for rehab or long-term care, and results in a 2.3 times higher rate of hospital deaths. Beyond its impact on patients' health, malnutrition increases hospital costs by 73% and adds an average of $10,000 in readmission expenses. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing valuable resources from ASPEN to help Educate, Empower, and Eliminate malnutrition in patients. Let’s work together to make a difference. Stay tuned for daily updates and resources! #ASPENMAW24

I had a fantastic experience this summer working at Luminoah, thanks to the Coulter Fellowship through the Wallace H. Coulter Center for Translational Research. Being part of the R&D team allowed me to contribute to the development of groundbreaking technology that will improve the lives of individuals relying on enteral feeding. I’m excited to continue the work we began over the summer and see how it will evolve throughout the year. #RocketMode

Each quarter, we gather the Luminoah family for a planning retreat to celebrate our milestones and plan for the future. Last week, our #Lumineers had much to celebrate! Our retreat included an escape room challenge, pickleball matches, and various games that brought us closer together. One of the highlights was discovering the musical talents of two team members who sing and play guitar, turning our evening into an impromptu concert. The night culminated in a memorable sing-along to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. At Luminoah, we believe in fostering a culture where every team member feels like family. Celebrating achievements, sharing talents, and creating unforgettable moments together strengthens our bonds and fuels our mission to transform lives. Building a great company culture isn’t just about work; it’s about creating an environment where people thrive both personally and professionally. Here’s to working with an amazing team dedicated to making a difference! #CompanyCulture #TeamBuilding #CelebratingSuccess #Lumineers #EnteralNutrition #TubeFeeding
