Kumusta? We are Lunas Collective, a feminist, volunteer-powered chat helpline and care space for people who experience gender-based violence (GBV) and discrimination and/or have sexual and reproductive health concerns. It was during the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in the Philippines, in March 2020, when the collective was founded. GBV cases were found to have increased globally during lockdown - while limiting people's mobility may have kept them safe from the virus, it also isolated some people with their abusers, farther from safety, support, and vital health-related information. We collaborated with the aid of digital tools and spaces, ultimately reaching survivors through channels they can access from where they were locked down, even just by using free data. "Nandito ang Lunas, kapag handa ka na (Lunas is here, when you are ready)." We assure people that they are not alone, and there will always be agencies ready to help them achieve their idea of safety, healing, and justice. Through community and collective action, we share the care to those who need it; to date, we have onboarded over 200 vollies and engaged with over 1,000 survivors from across the Philippines. We are supported by the University of the Philippines Women's Studies Foundation, Inc., UP Center for Women's and Gender Studies, and UP Department of Women and Development Studies. We've also received support and have past or ongoing partnerships with key organizations including: Australia Global Alumni, Global Affairs Canada through PBSP, United Nations Development Programme, USAID through RTI International, Likhaan Center for Women's Health Inc., Commission on Human Rights Philippines, Office of Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Office of the (former) VP of the Philippines, Atty. Leni Robredo, Bayi, Inc., and Oxfam PH. We also work with interns and fieldwork students from various programs and universities, including those from the University of the Philippines (Social Work, Community Development, and Fine Arts undergrads; Social Work and Women and Development Studies masters) and Psychology undergraduates from Miriam College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and De La Salle University. In time for our third year anniversary in March 2023, we started working with EMpower - The Emerging Markets Foundation; Lunas Collective will be engaging people aged 15 to 24 y/o in creating communities of care. We find that there is a lot of work to be done - learning about gender inequality and GBV root causes, eroding power of guilt and shame that prevent people from seeking help, and celebrating diverse gender identities, sexualities, and pleasures so every body is free to give and receive love. We're also building on our helpline operations and growing ability to research, educate, and advocate. We are happy to connect with you in this space! For volunteer opportunities and collaborations, message at lunascollective@gmail.com. Let's #ShareTheCare! #NanditoAngLunas #LunasCollective
