At a time when some politicians are trying to make LGBTQQ+ individuals feel isolated and alone, data can show us the truth. More people are finding ways to define themselves and live more authentically. Organizations like LYRIC are critical for supporting young people with the resources they need today so that they can live full, healthy lives as LGBTQQ+ adults tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/gXzp_r_A

A note of love and needed reminder from Lady Gaga.

"Let me be clear, our city's strength comes from its diversity and the communities that shape it. At a time when the LGBTQ+ community's access to life saving health care is being used as a political pawn, and their basic rights, freedoms, and humanity are under attack, we will double down on our support for the LGBTQ+ community here in San Francisco." -Mayor Daniel Lurie Learn more about Mayor Lurie's commitment to our community in a special Bay Area Reporter Op-Ed. https://lnkd.in/gz_5QahT

As a parent, an LGBTQ+ leader, and a former educator, I am heartbroken and enraged by these executive orders attacking transgender youth, their families, and their teachers. Criminalizing educators for affirming their students, stripping parents of their rights to support their children, and dismantling healthcare access is a full-scale assault on our communities. But let me be clear: California stands firm. Senator Scott Wiener's bold leadership in the face of this cruelty is nothing short of lifesaving. His unwavering commitment to protecting transgender youth and their families shows what true public service looks like. The $50 million defense fund, the Transgender Privacy Act, and the expansion of sanctuary protections are crucial steps in resisting this federal overreach. To every trans and nonbinary young person, every parent fighting for their child’s future, and every educator standing in solidarity—you are not alone. We will fight for you and alongside you. We will protect you. And we will never back down. Now is the time for action. We must rally behind leaders who are standing up for human rights, push back against these attacks, and make it clear that hate has no home here. Call your elected officials now! #ProtectTransYouth #LGBTQRights #WeWillNotBeErased #TransRightsAreHumanRights #Education

LYRIC: Center for LGBTQQ+ Youth reposted this
Over the next few weeks, we will see a number of vicious and discriminatory actions taken by the new administration. These executive actions and comments by the administration will feel personal and make a mockery of our democratic institutions. In the immediate aftermath of the day one announcement of Executive Orders -- for many LGBTQ+ people and our families – it means worry, growing concern around safety and unanswered questions about how to navigate everyday life. Intentionally using the weight of the most powerful office in this country to undermine our rights and place a bullseye on the backs of queer people not only makes our lives harder -- but it’s also unspeakably cruel. Knowingly causing harm to any community is antithetical to public service. While these actions may create fear and sow chaos, no executive action can change the fact that transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and queer people are vital members of our families and communities. And like all people, deserve dignity, respect, and the freedom to live without fear of government-sanctioned harm. A president’s powers are not unlimited—the Constitution, federal courts, and our democratic system serve as bulwarks against government overreach. GLAD Law will continue using every tool we have to fight for LGBTQ+ people’s rights and for fairness and dignity. We will defend the fundamental principle that equal protection under the law is guaranteed – without exception. LYRIC's ED, Gael Isaiah Lala-Chávez was interviewed by Univision to discuss the negative ramifications of the new Administration's attempts to negate the fact that trans people exist, always have, and always will. LYRIC will continue to be here for trans and queer young people who need support and resources to thrive. Join us. https://lnkd.in/ghfGEn3m
Thank you, Univision and Nathalie Vera for highlighting Trump’s Executive Order targeting “one gender” in Spanish-speaking channels. Let’s address the facts: Less than 1% of the population identifies as transgender or nonbinary. At a time when working-class families are struggling with high gas prices and grocery costs, #47 is prioritizing his first day in office to attack one of the most marginalized communities in our nation. Fear-mongering and misinformation will not erase queer and trans people. We have existed for generations, and we will continue to exist long after this administration. If you are a youth or family member in need of support in San Francisco, please reach out to LYRIC: Center for LGBTQQ+ Youth, We are here for you, always.

We're grateful for California's leaders such as State Senator Scott Wiener! Learn more about the new legislation he's introducing that would protect the privacy of trans adults.
As transgender people are viciously targeted by right wing political leaders in ways that lead to harassment & violence, we need to have their backs. Today I’m announcing new legislation to protect trans people’s privacy & reduce bigots’ ability to target them. Senate Bill 59 automatically makes confidential court records regarding a person’s legal change of name & gender marker. California law already provides this important privacy/anti-harassment protection to minors. SB 59 extends the protection to adults. It’s hard to overstate the poison directed at trans people by some of the most powerful people on the planet. They’re punching down by trying to make it impossible for trans people to work, access health care, play sports, or even go to the bathroom. In other words, to exist. These leaders’ words & actions are poison. They lead to discrimination, dehumanization, harassment & violence toward trans people — who are simply being who they are & trying to live their lives. California stands strong against this bigotry.
