Supporting the commercialization of medical device and biotech startups.
About us
M2D2 (Massachusetts Medical Device Development) is an incubator providing a wet and dry labs, office and meeting space, and state-of-the-art equipment for medical device, medtech, and biotech startup companies to grow. (At rents that are a fraction of those in the "617.") As New England's only BARDA DRIVe incubator we are uniquely positioned to connect startups to generous government funding for their innovations in the infectious disease, health security, and "solving sepsis" spaces. Through the Center for Advancing Point of Care Technologies (CAPCaT) in Heart, Lung, Blood, and Sleep Disorders — a joint initiative with UMass Medical School — support development and testing of promising “late-stage” point of care technologies that can be rapidly deployed to enhance the diagnosis, monitoring, management and/or treatment of heart, lung, blood and sleep disorders (NHLBI), with an additional interest in projects that incorporate complementary and integrative health approaches (NCCIH). Every spring our annual signature event, the $200K Challenge, attracts global life sciences innovators who pitch their products in competition for a share of $200,000 in sponsor-provided, in-kind resources, as well as generous cash awards. (2021 was the Challenge's 10th Anniversary.) Subscribe to the M2D2 e-newsletter for twice-weekly updates on funding and mentoring opportunities, news, and events that can help you advance your innovation and your business. Meet LIFT Cohort Member Sumithra Madhalalo, a graduate student in Civil Engineering. Sumithra is a graduate student whose research focuses on the health benefits of millet, a nutrient-dense grain with ancient origins in Africa and Asia, particularly for aging populations. With a unique combination of civil engineering and agricultural science expertise, Sumithra explores how sustainable infrastructure can support the millet industry and boost its impact on public health. Her work emphasizes the importance of designing and constructing essential systems — such as irrigation, processing plants, and transportation networks — that ensure efficient cultivation, processing, and distribution of millet food products. By incorporating sustainable practices like water management and soil conservation, Sumithra's research supports both rural development and sustainable agriculture, creating a positive cycle that benefits communities and the millet industry alike. Join us to learn more about Sumithra's innovative research at the LIFT Final Presentation NEXT Thursday! Register here: https://buff.ly/4hFrmHR
