Machine Tool Orders Making a Second-Half Rebound U.S. manufacturers’ new orders for machine tools improved to $360.8 million in August, up 22.7% from July but still -12.0% behind the August 2023 new-order volume. The latest result brings the eight-month value for U.S. machine tool orders to $2.86 billion, -11.5% less than the January-August 2023 order total. The totals are supplied by AMT - the Assn. for Manufacturing Technology in its monthly U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report, which tracks purchases of new metal-cutting machinery and metal-forming and fabricating machinery nationwide and in six regions, as an indicator demand for that capital equipment. USMTO also serves as an indicator of future manufacturing activity because it quantifies machining operations’ investments in preparation for new production programs. #machinery #machineryandeqipments #technology #electrotechnology #equipments #korea #southkorea #machines Source: https://lnkd.in/diZpBnj6

Interview with MCS’ Josh Lewis: Demand for Automation What is new in your software and technology? Josh Lewis: Our software continues to improve, thanks largely to customer ideas and feedback through our MCS User Group. Our users share their ideas and then vote on changes, which leads to incredible improvements. Some of the latest updates include a revamped Resource Mobile app for iOS and Android. Now, delivery drivers and mobile techs can use a phone or tablet (instead of paper) to capture pictures, signatures, notes, and more. Meanwhile, all other teams can see completed and upcoming tasks in real-time. Another exciting addition is our new equipment scanning feature, eScan. By scanning the QR code on the machine, both staff and customers can access important documents such as user manuals, specifications, and certifications in one digital place. Integrating telematics should be easy to achieve and instantly beneficial. Take our comprehensive Telematics Hub, for instance. Our users connect with one or more of the nearly two dozen providers. Now instead of logging into multiple providers, our users see and report on consolidated data from multiple providers in a single platform. #machinery #machineryandeqipments #technology #electrotechnology #equipments #korea #southkorea #machines Source: https://lnkd.in/gG9MeKmt

New 3-D Mammography System Online at Wetzel County Hospital WVU Medicine Wetzel County Hospital celebrated the purchase of a new 3-D Mammography System during a ribbon cutting ceremony held Oct. 2. The new 3-D mammography machine is anticipated to provide even better images of the interior of women’s breasts in an effort to screen for potential areas of cancer. The mammography machine, which cost $310,000, was purchased in concert with a new ultrasound for $98,000. A fundraising effort, which continues via the fund at the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, was led by retired radiology employee Fawn Price. Pam Bowers, manager of the radiology department, said it was a special day for the hospital and the residents of the community. “It’s kind of a full-circle moment for me. Fawn hired me here 33 years ago and now I’m in the role that she held at that time,” Bowers said. “So to work with Fawn again to get this technology for our community is a wonderful thing.” Jessica Huffman, assistant vice president of clinical services, said she is a recent breast cancer survivor, making the day even more significant for her. Paul “Butch” Barcus, chairman of the Wetzel County Hospital Board of Directors, thanked the board, Price and everyone involved in the effort. Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial and Wetzel County hospitals, also thanked everyone for their work. Artwork of the new machinery and employees created by 8-year-old Avery Cochran will be displayed at the radiology department. Her drawing stated, “Hand in hand, helping each other.” #machinery #machineryandeqipments #technology #electrotechnology #equipments #korea #southkorea #machines Source: https://lnkd.in/gv64ZFB8

Gallant Outlines Volvo’s Journey Toward Sustainable Construction The term “sustainability” is associated with higher initial cost and as a buzzword to appease investors. As it applies to reducing carbon footprint while maintaining productivity, however, it is a top consideration for OEMs, fleets, and rental equipment providers. Volvo Construction Equipment is one manufacturer taking concrete steps toward finding efficient and green alternative power solutions for heavy equipment. Volvo CE’s parent, Volvo Group, also manufactures buses and trucks, which have been using electric solutions for years. This has positioned the company to address the heavy equipment side, leading to an aggressive set of targets for the development of electric and hybrid machinery. In 2019, the company launched its first six battery-electric machines, utilizing 48-volt batteries adapted from the forklift industry. Automation is another piece Volvo is exploring as part of its vision for sustainable equipment. The focus is not on achieving fully autonomous machines, rather it encompasses operational enhancements, such as power steering and dig assist technologies, which help operators work more efficiently and reduce fuel consumption, according to Gallant. Looking forward, Gallant emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach to sustainability, urging stakeholders to think beyond simply acquiring electric machines. “We realize that this is the journey, not an end point,” he says. “You don't get to be sustainable; you work toward sustainability, and we are at the very, very beginning of this journey.” #machinery #machineryandeqipments #technology #electrotechnology #equipments #korea #southkorea #machines Source: https://lnkd.in/gatkpVeW

Machinery Pete: Hot-Ticket Iron While the market for late-model, used equipment for row-crop operations has softened this year, that’s not necessarily the case for hay and forage equipment and midsize loader tractors. Take round balers for example. At an Aug. 1, 2024, farm auction in Solen, N.D., a 2022 New Holland Roll-Belt 560 Specialty Crop Plus round baler (1,810-bale count) sold for $53,975. That was a new record auction price by a whopping $10,465. That record price lasted one day. The tractor in the middle of the photo at right is a 1992 John Deere 4055 with 22 actual hours. Prior to that day, a 1989 2WD model with 215 hours that sold at a Dec. 19, 2016, farm auction in St. Edward, Neb., held the record at $93,000. What did the John Deere 4055 with 22 hours sell for earlier this year? $275,000. Yes, you read that right. Next to it in line that day was a 2002 John Deere 7510 with 13 actual hours. I saw this exact same tractor sell at auction in Kentucky almost 10 years ago to the day for $100,000. At the Berlin auction, the tractor went for $192,000. The third green tractor that sold was a 1992 John Deere 4455 with 2,260 hours. It brought $160,000, which is $62,150 more than the prior record. I expect strong prices on good used loader tractors for the rest of 2024. #machinery #machineryandeqipments #technology #electrotechnology #equipments #korea #southkorea #machines Source: https://lnkd.in/gqZ5Tap7
