Waveguides make AR possible. How does it work? Let’s break it down: A light source emits beams directed toward a projector panel positioned near your temple. This panel displays digital content—like maps or 3D images—and sends it into the glass waveguide through a diffraction grating, called an input coupler. The system distributes light across red, green, and blue waveguide layers, with light exiting through another grating (the output coupler) aligned with your eye. This creates the vibrant AR visuals users experience. Discover the technology behind the scenes: www.magicleap.com/stories #AR #Waveguides #MagicLeap #Innovation #augmentedreality

One of the most rewarding aspects of the R&D process is sharing our advanced optics technology with esteemed industry peers and receiving their invaluable feedback. Dr. Julie Frish, Magic Leap’s Senior Research Engineer for Waveguide Materials, attended the Society For Information Display's 2024 Display Week to showcase some of our latest innovations in polymer and glass waveguides. Our glass waveguides are engineered to deliver a larger Field of View (FOV), enhancing immersion and providing a more expansive visual experience. Our polymer waveguides introduce significant improvements in durability, weight, and cost, making them a versatile and practical choice for a wide range of applications. As the Augmented Reality landscape evolves, Magic Leap remains committed to creating groundbreaking experiences that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
