Over the years, I’ve become proud to call myself a Londoner. But I’ve never stopped dreaming of meaningfully impacting my beautiful, yet deeply challenged homeland. Fast forward to 2022: we took ownership of Vivat Bacchus, a place where we could share the very best of South African wine, food, and hospitality with this incredible city. Recently, I had the privilege of meeting the truly inspirational Taddy Blecher, a South African who chose to stay and help rebuild the country from within. A PIONEER WITH PASSION, A PURPOSE AND A PLAN - UNSTOPPABLE! Today really started off with a “SpaceX” type liftoff at The Conduit in London hosted by Tahirih Danesh, PhD Law , CEO of the Africa College Foundation (MII U.K.) who had arranged for the incredibly passionate social impact and nation building visionary Taddy Blecher, to talk about their Maharishi Invincibility Institute (MII) education model and their many life-changing success stories. Accompanied by equally passionate stories and some compelling context from Michael Mapstone, CEO of the Anglo American Foundation and MII Alumni Pakiso Litau, it was a morning of great hope for anyone in London with any love for South Africa 🇿🇦 and all very ably chaired by Ruth Davison I had the great pleasure of reconnecting with Taddy after 20 years and there is much collaborative potential with the work Shelley Coleman - Marsh and I are doing in collaboration with the Engineering Council in South Africa (#ECSA) and South African Institution of Civil Engineering (#SAICE) to enable scalable candidacy mentoring and professional development support to 10,000 “mature” engineering graduates in South Africa who have been abandoned by government, the SETAs or their employers and have not yet achieved professional registration after 8 years or more of engineering work. Sustainable Infrastructure needs Sustainable Education - and a link with Taddy and his team could be an extension of his “game changer” education vision.
