Helpful info from CHIA…
𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 play a crucial role in the Massachusetts health care delivery system. CHIA is responsible for providing meaningful analysis on hospital and health systems through various measures and reporting. In support of this goal, CHIA has released its most recent Hospital Profiles publication with data through hospital fiscal year 2023 (HFY 2023). Massachusetts Hospital Profiles provide information on acute and non-acute hospitals based on hospital characteristics, services, payer mix, utilization trends, top discharges, and financial performance and cost trends over a five-year period through HFY 2023. These profiles enable comparison against statewide or peer cohorts for each measure. CHIA has updated its interactive dashboard for acute hospitals and their health systems, allowing users to filter results by individual hospital, hospital type, and system affiliation where applicable. The dashboard now includes hospital and health system performance data in one place. See: https://lnkd.in/di5WxYsc

Gov. Maura Healey signed a new health care oversight bill this week that will impact how state agencies monitor the market, and some in the industry are optimistic about the new law's potential impact. One key change expands the authority of the state’s Health Policy Commission, an independent state agency which is tasked with monitoring health care costs and access. The commission has been criticized for lacking teeth when it comes to enforcement. The new law gives the agency more of a regulatory role. https://ow.ly/ta4C50UEonv

Massachusetts has enacted two historic laws that will improve patient outcomes and access to high-cost prescription drugs. The new legislation expands reporting and disclosure requirements to increase transparency from health care providers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), among others. These changes enhance CHIA's ability to monitor and report on a wide variety of indicators, which are essential for promoting a transparent and equitable health care system that effectively serves all residents of the Commonwealth. CHIA congratulates the leadership of the Healey-Driscoll Administration as well as House Speaker Ronald Mariano, Senate President Karen Spilka, and Health Care Financing Committee Co-Chairs Representative John Lawn and Senator Cindy Friedman.
