A night of remembrance, hope, and support. 💛 My team and I had the privilege of attending the SAILS Inaugural Gala, and it was an experience that will stay with us for a long time. First and foremost, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Stillborn And Infant Loss Support (SAILS) for hosting such a such a beautiful and heartfelt event. The "Raising the SAILS" gala brought together a compassionate community dedicated to supporting families as they navigate the unimaginable grief of stillbirth and infant loss. At Mainline Maternity Care, we understand the depth of this pain. It’s a very real struggle, and all too often, those affected feel isolated. I say that to say, events like the "Raising the SAILS" Inaugural Gala are crucial in raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding stillbirth and infant loss. It's a reminder that no one should walk this path alone. We are proud to stand in solidarity with SAILS and all those working to support families through these difficult times. 💛 Are you standing with us? This is what progress looks like! 💛 The MOMS Who Serve Act recognizes that mental health is just as important as physical health, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. Access to perinatal mental health care should be a right, not a privilege, and this legislation is a significant step forward in ensuring our military families receive the support they deserve. Mainline Maternity Care applauds this commitment to supporting military families. Let's keep raising our voices and continue pushing for policies that protect the health of moms and babies everywhere.
A victory for military maternal mental health! This week, the MOMS Who Serve Act (S.3641/H.R.7087) was passed as part of the NDAA package. The MOMS Who Serve Act will require the Department of Defense pilot a program within military medical facilities to assess the impact of providing prevention programs for perinatal mental health conditions to pregnant and postpartum members and their families. Despite this achievement, our work is not yet done! This is our last chance to pass policies to save the lives of moms and babies this year. Use your voice to urge legislators to include maternal and infant health policy measures in the final packages of the 118th Congress: https://p2a.co/dqy4ngh

To the mama who feels like she’s drowning in anxiety and sadness after giving birth, you’re not alone. Studies show that up to 1 in 7 women experience postpartum depression, a common condition that affects many new moms. Save this post to refer back to it later. 🎯 The roots of PPD are complex and come from many things. It goes beyond the typical “baby blues” that some women experience shortly after delivery. It can feel isolating, overwhelming, and even make you question your ability to cope. But here’s the thing—you’re not alone, and help is available. 💭 Think about this; hormonal fluctuations after childbirth can trigger extreme emotional highs and lows. Sleep deprivation that often comes with caring for a newborn can leave you feeling utterly exhausted and mentally foggy. Adjusting to your new role as a mother brings its own set of challenges and stressors. A lack of support from family and friends can make the transition even more difficult. Given all these challenges, it’s not surprising that PPD is so common. Here’s what you can mama while your support system may be busy: 💛 Indulge in self-care. It’s essential to prioritize and integrate self-care into your routine; it should be a non-negotiable part of your day. Everyday you should do something for yourself that. Taking time to recharge, allowing yourself to rest can impact your mental and emotional state. We understand that moms all over, including those in Baltimore County, face unique challenges, from access to childcare to the pressures of balancing work and family. We see you. You don’t have to face this alone. You’re not seeing this by accident. It’s time to make space and time to connect with other mothers and professionals who genuinely understand what you’re going through. This is such an important message. Thank you for sharing your story and advocating for NICU families, Jess. It's so true that the challenges don't just disappear when you leave the NICU. The transition home can bring a whole new set of anxieties and struggles, and it's so important for families to feel supported during this time. Sending love and support to all the NICU families out there navigating those ongoing challenges. 💛
Many people don’t realize that when you leave the NICU, you still have challenges to face. When I came home with Liam, my 31-weeker, I thought life would go back to “normal”. But I struggled—and I didn’t recognize it at first. I struggled with fear—fear that he would choke. Fear that he might never eat without choking, especially once he went back on tube feedings. I pushed myself to go back to work, determined to finish residency and start fellowship, but then I struggled to find childcare. And when I did, I struggled to leave him with anyone else. There were 911 scares and I had to cycle between multiple people-friends and family. Everyday I felt like I was trying to make it and grateful when the day was over only to have to wake up and repeat. Leaving the NICU brings a whole new set of challenges. People think it’s over because they see your baby with eyes, fingers, and toes. They see what looks like a whole, healthy baby. But what they don’t see is the reality: these babies are still maturing, often dealing with the lingering effects of their NICU stay. And it’s not just the baby. The trauma lingers for parents, too. It’s emotional, mental, and even financial trauma that has to be navigated. And navigating relationships and comments from people who just don’t get it. You’re still in survival mode, trying to figure out what thriving even looks like. What about you? If you’re a NICU parent, what have you found most challenging after leaving the NICU? Let’s talk about it and support one another. Share your experience below or send me a message—your story matters.❤️ #nicu #nicujourney #nicuparent #niculife #preemiemom #preemie #nicusupport #lifeafternicu
