The recent Bombay High Court ruling on what constitutes stalking under Indian law has sparked intense debate. In the case, two men with prior charges of sexual assault and harassment followed a minor, raising important questions about how such behaviors are treated in society and by the legal system. Eve teasing, following women, and making obscene comments or gestures are alarmingly common in India. Yet, these actions are often brushed off as harmless flirtation—or worse, blamed on the victim’s clothing or behavior. How do you think such behaviors impact women’s well-being? As January marks Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a Nepali woman's story tears through us. Promised a housemaid's job in Oman for double her husband's salary, she trusted her village agent to help feed her toddler - only to be trapped in a Kerala hotel room without food. While Opportunity Village Nepal helped her find freedom and start her own eatery, 40,000+ Nepali women vanished into trafficking networks last year alone. Their stories begin at home - where poverty and domestic violence push women into desperate choices. Behind each statistic is a daughter, a sister, a mother - dreaming of a better life but caught in traffickers' lies.
