Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

About us

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 500,000 wishes worldwide with the help of more than 43,000 volunteers across 50 countries on five continents. The Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area chapter was founded in 1984 and has granted more than 9,000 wishes in its 40-year history. The chapter covers 17 Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Marin, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Siskiyou, Solano and Sonoma. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength needed to fight a critical illness. This can improve their quality of life and produce better health outcomes. Wishes can’t happen without community support, so thank you for supporting and sharing our mission so every eligible child can have their wish granted.

  • While Kael endured exhausting blood transfusions in the hospital, the anticipation of his wish to be a pilot lifted his spirits and nurtured his emotional well-being. When the special day finally arrived, Kael’s heart soared with joy as he “flew” a plane in a flight simulator. ✈️ “Kael misses a lot of school and events due to his illness. His wish was so special because he was able to have an amazing experience because of his condition and not despite it.” – Mandy, Kael’s mom #NationalBloodDonorMonth

  • 3 days left this year to support wish kids like Julian! Make your tax-deductible gift by 11:59 p.m. on December 31: https://lnkd.in/g9DjgsHY. ⭐🎁⭐ Julian is all about spending time in the water—he's happiest when submerged! But after being diagnosed with leukemia, Julian was afraid to go in the water for over a year because of his ostomy bag from treatment. Once it was removed, Julian wanted nothing more than to get back to his happy place. Julian wished to go to the Bahamas—he knew it was the place for him from the countless YouTube videos of waterslides, lazy rivers, and sparkling pools that he watched in the hospital. Being able to look forward to his wish was a huge help for Julian, and experiencing a week with his family at the Atlantis resort was even better! “Julian was tearing up when we were leaving—he loved it,” said his mom, Karla. “He told me he was the happiest kid ever.” ⭐🎁⭐ Your gift today is a promise to wish kids like Julian—that they'll be able to receive the life-changing power of a wish just when they need it most. Make your tax-deductible year-end gift today and bring a brighter future to wish kids around the greater Bay Area.
