Recently, John Noyes had the incredible opportunity to tour A Safe Haven Foundation with their passionate Director of Development, Angela Lathen. Angela’s personal connection to the foundation is a testament to its transformative impact. What makes this organization special? ⬇️ Welcoming Spaces: A vibrant courtyard, family units and dedicated areas for Veterans make it a place of healing. Empowering Education: Job training in culinary, welding and more, plus a catering program serving over 1,000 meals daily. Essential Services: A new pharmacy and Behavioral Health Department open to both residents and the community. The City only provides $28 per day for food, shelter, and case management, well below the $100 needed, making donations crucial. Both time and money can make a real impact, which has inspired John to volunteer in the kitchen! Let’s follow his lead. Whether you volunteer, donate, or spread the word, every effort helps. On Sept. 18, over 400 supporters gathered at 167 Events in Fulton Market for the After School Matters annual Gala, raising $2.59 million to fund transformative programs for Chicago teens. The energy in the room was electric when Board Chair Mellody Hobson took the stage to share, “Teens who participate in After School Matters programs are more likely to graduate from high school and more likely to go to college.” The night featured inspiring performances by Latinos Juntos and the HHW Vocal Arts Ensemble from Gallery 37, heartfelt speeches, teen showcases, and more, with creative writing teen Dominic and ABC7 anchor Samantha Chatman as emcees! During the event, CEO Mary Ellen Caron announced the exciting news that a new ASM teen center is coming to the Cabrini community in 2025, calling it “a direct investment in Chicago teens — our collective future.” The event’s success was made possible by the generosity of attendees and Visionary Sponsors, including Anonymous, GCM Grosvenor, the Hobson Lucas Family Foundation, and Lisa Wardell.
