Our family’s MakeSoil #foodwaste drop-off site is now LIVE! We welcome our neighbors in the La Plata/Port Tobacco, #Maryland area who want to compost (but may not have a backyard or the bandwidth) to join us in our #composting efforts on our farmette. This may not be the first time I’ve rallied my neighbors to #compost with me, but it is the first time at our new home in Southern Maryland. Our #yardsharing effort is strictly for small-scale residential composting on our property, which is zoned as residential-agricultural land. We are not a commercial operation and we accept nothing in exchange for the food waste dropped off (completely voluntary). The MakeSoil app is a wonderful resource for those who want to open their #backyardcomposting efforts to their neighbors. Using the app is free for Soil Site hosts like us, and I believe it is also free for Soil Supporters (those who drop off food waste for composting). If you are a #municipal #solidwastemanagement coordinator and you are looking for ways to expand composting in your #community, in addition to siting #commercialcomposting facilities for businesses, consider encouraging your residents to play a part by sharing their composting efforts with their neighbors. Shared backyard composting this way is one of the many ways you can help #makecompostmainstream. Link to our MakeSoil “soil site”: https://lnkd.in/eqyexyKd
