  • High performance is less about expertise than it is environment. The environment you create as a boss is going to be critical in creating high performance in your team, therefore enabling you to be high performing. 1️⃣ First and foremost - safety. If you do not create a safe place for people, one where mistakes are okay, challenges are not diminished, needs are not ignored - you won't achieve high performance. You will use this as the foundation for building high performance. 2️⃣ Clear expectations. People have to know what you expect from them and not be surprised about what you are measuring success against. You also need to make expectations two-way, what do they expect from you in terms of support? 3️⃣ Be Flexible. Micromanagement is a huge complaint that people have about their manager- that is often because managers try to prescribe exactly how to do something rather than outline what output is expected. 4️⃣ Be radically transparent. This connects to managing expectations, if someone isn't meeting your expectations- be direct and address it early. No one should ever be surprised by your assessment in a performance review. Communicate what is happening with the team to the team. Don't hide information that is okay to be shared (there will always be some information that is private that a manager has privy to - transparent can also mean being clear you are unable to discuss something) 5️⃣ Advocate and follow through. Be on your employees side! Show them you care by advocating for development or promotion/pay opportunities and maintain trust by following though with your commitments. High performance is about creating the environment to enable people to show up and do what they do best. • As a manager, you play the most critical role in leading organizational change with your team - communicating key messages, coaching on new behaviors, and that famous role "managing resistance." But what does it even mean to manage resistance? Navigating resistance isn't just about methodology and strategies; it's about understanding the emotional currents beneath the surface. When we face pushback, it's often a reflection of fears, uncertainties, or unmet needs. Addressing these emotions directly—listening, empathizing, and validating concerns—is the missing puzzle piece no change methodology can do for you. With this approach, you will rethink what "resistance" is and convert it into powerful collaboration.   In this one day program, you'll learn the fundamental roles of a people manager in organizational change and practical skills you can start using immediately. But more importantly, you'll learn what to DO on a day-to-day basis as you play these roles to cultivate trust and transform resistance into resilience. • We have all heard of micromanagement and have a deep understanding of how negatively impactful this can be, but the opposite can be just as damaging. When your manager is perpetually absent, disconnected, or simply uninterested in your success, it creates a toxic environment that not only damages team morale but hinders productivity and growth. But it doesn't have to be this way. Register for our upcoming free webinar to learn how to avoid UNDER managing your teams. https://lu.ma/9catgcsp

  • Are your managers ready to lead change? Organizations invest heavily in change management, yet many overlook a critical factor—whether managers have the foundational skills needed to support their teams through transition. Without core skills like reading non-verbal cues, validating emotions, and running effective 1:1s, even the best change initiatives can fall apart. Before expecting managers to lead change, we need to equip them with the right tools. 🔹 What essential skills do managers need? 🔹 Why do change efforts fail without them? 🔹 How can organizations bridge the gap? Let’s dive in. 👇 #Leadership #PeopleManagement #ChangeManagement #ChangeSuccess

  • If your managers aren't equipped to manage effectively, is your change set up to fail? Change is constant in today’s business world, and organizations invest heavily in strategies to navigate it. But there’s a critical oversight in many change initiatives: the assumption that managers already have the foundational skills needed to support their teams. Without strong coaching, communication, and leadership fundamentals, even the best change strategies will struggle to succeed. We often ask managers to guide their teams through uncertainty—yet, are we equipping them with the right tools to do so? Before expecting managers to drive change, we must first ensure they have the core management skills to lead effectively. Here are my thoughts (visual form) on what is hard to do in change management if you don't already have the corresponding foundational management skills? What do you think? #ChangeManagement #LeadershipDevelopment #ManagementSkills #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #BusinessTransformation

  • One of the reasons I'm so passionate about supporting the next generation of people leaders is that being a manager was always a very lonely space for me. Even though I was doing it very well- I always felt like I was doing it "wrong". I'm naturally a listener, a sit back and observer. I am not going to push to be loudest voice in the room, or feel like it is my way or the highway. I have been told more times than I can count that "I worry too much about all the little details impacting the individuals". I often fight harder for the people I manage than I do for my own self - and I firmly believe you have to be the first one willing to roll up your sleeves and "do the work" no matter your level. Lead by example, integrate vulnerability, empathy and transparency and never lose sight that every single business is a collection of human beings. My world exploded in the last few years with individuals who share this perspective and are driven by similar values and my cup was filled to hear Amy speak about her leadership perspective - and how you can be the listener, the observer and the leader - and that actually the best of leaders are the ones who are the best listeners. Thank you Amy Haworth again for joining the podcast, I know you made me feel seen and you inspired me deeply. If you haven't listened yet, I know her insights will do the same for you!
