We want to wish you all a happy holiday season! During 2024 we have been focusing on building our seaweed material portfolio and are very excited for what’s to come 2025. We recently got approved for a project “ALLGEA” together with Chalmers Industriteknik, Houdini Sportswear and MOUNID. As our product portfolio is building, we are preparing for our projects lined up in 2025 - bringing seaweed biomaterials into world known brand portfolios. So, thanks to 2024 for an exciting first year. Merry Christmas and Happy New year! #Merrychristmas #happynewyear #oceanbiomaterials #seaweedmaterials #swedishseaweed
Manatee Biomaterials
Climate Technology Product Manufacturing
Ocean Biomaterials at scale for circular product and packaging systems
About us
Manatee makes ocean biomaterials available at scale for circular packaging and product solutions, providing a regenerative alternative to fossil and finite resources. Our seaweed materials come from the Swedish oceans and are refined on Scandinavian ground. Building on a long tradition of utilising seaweed for product applications, we aim to make a reliable and transparent source of seaweed material available for generations to come.

We are happy to announce the start of the "ALLGAE" project, financed by Formas, a Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development together with MOUNID, Houdini Sportswear, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and Chalmers Industriteknik. The project aims to develop algae-based textile fibers from seaweed by-products, while simultaneously integrating a new algae pigment directly during the fiber spinning process. The goal is to create a sustainable and circular alternative to traditional fossil- and bio-based fibers, eliminating the need for harmful dyes. #seaweedbiomaterials #algaebasedtextile #biomaterials #manatee
The trend toward using ocean biomaterials like seaweed is on the rise! Here’s why: 🌿 Sustainability in Demand: Businesses need eco-friendly alternatives, and ocean-based materials are renewable, biodegradable, and help reduce plastic waste. 🌊 Cleaner Oceans: These materials not only replace harmful plastics but also offer a closed-loop system—less waste, less pollution. 🪸 Low Impact Farming: Ocean farming doesn’t require freshwater or fertilizers, making it a low-carbon and resource-efficient option. 👕 Versatility: From packaging to textiles and even cosmetics, ocean biomaterials are incredibly adaptable for a range of innovative products. We at manatee believe the future of products and packaging is ocean-powered, supporting both the planet and the demands for more sustainable choices. Photo: LOVE ÖRTERSTRÖM. Manatee makes ocean biomaterials available at scale for circular packaging and product solutions, providing a regenerative alternative to fossil and finite resources. But why ocean biomaterials? The ocean provides a vast, rapidly replenishing source of materials. Seaweed, grows up to 60x faster than land plants! Farming ocean plants requires minimal resources and no freshwater and fertilizers, making it a low-impact alternative to traditional farming. From packaging to textiles, ocean biomaterials are versatile and can be used in a wide range of industries. By harnessing the power of the ocean, we can build a regenerative future. #seaweed #regenerative #circularpackaging #productsolutions #manatee

Manatee Biomaterials - a Joint Venture between Nordic SeaFarm and FutureLab & Partners since 2023 to make ocean biomaterials available at scale for circular product and packaging systems. Enabling future applications from ocean based material sources, Manatee Biomaterials' starting point is seaweeds cultivated in Scandinavian waters, creating a raw material source that is transparent, constant and reliable, farmed sustainably and processed effectively and clean. Our mission is to translate seaweed into materials using technologies that use low energy and utilize the full material, creating solutions that are circular throughout. Want to know more? We will be joining the North Sea Farmers event this Thursday in the Netherlands. Reach out to Kajsa Olsson or Kinge Gardien to get in touch.
