We were thrilled to celebrate Many Hands’ 20th anniversary last night at Hogan Lovells with members, friends, and grantees. In this short video, released at the event, founding board members share what they set out to achieve and grantees talk about the difference Many Hands has made for their work. About us
Many Hands leverages the power of collective giving to support nonprofits serving and empowering Washington, DC area women, children, and families in socioeconomic need. As the leading giving circle in the DC metro area, we have granted more than $2.5 million to local nonprofits since 2004. Originally a women’s organization inspired by the Impact100 model, we continue to prioritize the empowerment of donors that philanthropy has historically overlooked. We welcome all members who share this goal. As an all-volunteer organization, Many Hands empowers all members to help shape grantmaking decisions. However, we have no volunteer requirement. Members are always welcome to participate in the ways that serve their interests and goals. On average, 40% of members serve on a review committee or volunteer in an operational role. If you *are* interested in participating in grantmaking, no experience or expertise is required. Fellow members will provide training and support you every step of the way. To learn more, visit us at manyhandsdc.org or email us at membership@manyhandsdc.org.

Find Many Hands in Yahoo Finance's round-up of ways to make your year-end giving more impactful! "Donating through a giving circle, where individuals, often women, pool their funds and their decision-making to make grants, is the hottest trend in philanthropy.... 'I chose a giving circle because it’s the most effective way to pool money with people and then get that in a lump sum to the organization,' [Many Hands member Shannon] Bonney said. 'It’s a lot more impactful to have your money be part of tens of thousands of dollars that are going to that group.'" Speaking at the 2025 Grant Cycle Membership Kickoff last month, Dr. Rustin Lewis, executive director of 2023 Impact Grantee Communities In Schools of the Nation's Capital, noted that a delay in government funding would have required Communities in Schools to shut down their program at Stanton Elementary School if not for Many Hands: "Your grant allowed us to stay in that school," he shared. Watch the kickoff video at https://lnkd.in/eQ4ku-hN to learn more about the impact of Many Hands funding and then find out how you can become a donor and volunteer at manyhandsdc.org/membership.
