George Condo’s two-part exhibition, ‘Pastels,’ offers a glimpse into the artist’s creative process and unbound inventiveness through the medium of pastel. Condo’s new works challenge the limits of improvisation within this medium—spontaneously deploying gesso, fields of color and dramatic pastel gestures, all without the benefit of preparatory sketches—to express various states of the human psyche. https://lnkd.in/eCQ_9Fgb

Featuring over 90 artworks in the museum’s iconic rotunda, this major exhibition examines the vibrant abstract art of Orphism. It explores the transnational movement’s developments in Paris, addressing the impact dance, music, and poetry had on the art, among other themes. Artists connected to Orphism engaged with ideas of simultaneity in kaleidoscopic compositions, investigating the transformative possibilities of color, form, and motion. Selected works by artists including Robert Delaunay, Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp, Mainie Jellett, František Kupka, Francis Picabia, and Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, and by the Synchromists Stanton Macdonald-Wright and Morgan Russell, are on view. https://lnkd.in/eFSZGVTh

David Zwirner is pleased to present Giorgio Morandi: Masterpieces from the Magnani-Rocca Foundation. This exhibition is one of the largest in New York to focus on Morandi’s work since Giorgio Morandi: 1890–1964, the artist’s 2008 retrospective at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. It follows and builds on celebrated institutional presentations of the Foundation’s collection of works by Morandi at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, London, in 2023 and at Musée de Grenoble in 2021. https://lnkd.in/dgZR2A-w

Jack Shainman Gallery is pleased to present Space is the Place, highlighting the profound and visionary works of renowned artist Barkley L. Hendricks. Space is the Place offers an exploration into the relationship between celestial bodies and the human experience. This connection sets the stage for an immersive experience that merges visual art, music, and philosophical exploration of the cosmos, and the future. At the heart of this exhibition is the title itself, Space is the Place, which references the groundbreaking 1972 film by jazz composer and Afrofuturist icon, Sun Ra. https://lnkd.in/eKhD9TmD

The installation includes six sculptures from the Frauen (Women) series and the related Torso (2005). The largest presentation of this historic body of work in the United States to date, the exhibition highlights its importance within the oeuvre of one of the most significant sculptors of our time. Schütte’s multivalent practice incorporates painting, drawing, printmaking, architectural model making, and sculpture. https://lnkd.in/eXCxMYuv

For her first exhibition with Lisson Gallery, Kelly Akashi presents a number of new bodies of work featuring glass, earth, stone and bronze elements, incorporating both found and uniquely processed materials. These are variously hung from the ceiling and lit from below, or else installed among a landscape of stone and marble sculptures mounted on Corten steel pedestals, creating a singular and associative environment with its own circular ecosystem, rich with the possibilities of making, remaking and unmaking. https://lnkd.in/eNDEu33Z
