Yesterday was an incredible day for our Gulf Blue Navigator companies as we had the opportunity to visit and tour our blue economy partners, Ocean Aero Inc, the Ocean Enterprise, and the Mississippi Aquarium! We were able to see first-hand the innovative work being done in the marine industry and how our collaboration is shaping the future of our oceans. Big congratulations to all 15 TSRs who were awarded support, totaling almost $1.9 million worth of testing and expertise for #MarineEnergy development at highly specialized facilities across the U.S. You've worked incredibly hard getting to this point—now it's time to grab a glass of egg nog, maybe take a little holiday break, and then get those test plans in the works with your facility partner so you're ready for your access window. 😤 If your application wasn't selected for support this round, you should have already received a notification with detailed reviewer feedback on how you can improve your application should you decide to try again. This #TEAMERTuesday we're sharing some research being conducted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on behalf of support recipient MarineSitu to test novel marine energy monitoring tools developed through the DOE Small Business Innovation Research program. During the demonstration in Sequim Bay, Washington, PNNL deployed the instrumentation suite including two optical camera systems, an imaging sonar, and an instrument integration hub. These instruments have been developed by MarineSitu specifically for monitoring #MarineEnergy systems and to reduce the costs associated with this type of underwater monitoring. In addition to deploying the instruments, PNNL staff are evaluating the data acquisition software provided by MarineSitu which uses AI-enabled object detection to classify targets in the instrument fields of view, and evaluating the ease of integrating their own data analytics and visualization with MarineSitu’s system.
