Director of the Internet Ethics Program, Irina Raicu, talked with Bored Panda about the risks TikTok poses to data security – mainly the vast amount of private information the app collects from users, and the possibility of manipulation and propaganda delivered via TikTok's recommendation algorithm. But Raicu points out, "The concerns are not unique to TikTok—the law applies to any apps that are based in "foreign adversary" countries, which include Russia and Iran, for example. But the scale of TikTok's adoption and usage in the U.S. makes it stand out even from other large social media platforms." Raicu goes on to remind us, "Whether we use TikTok or not, we should all be pushing for broader, more effective privacy protections." https://lnkd.in/gA2j_dZS

I am briefly quoted in this story; to be clear (since the only part that got quoted was my comment about the prior problems), I don't think that the announced changes will make things better. https://lnkd.in/gH_fseK5 #ethics #internet #socialmedia #Meta #contentmoderation #business
