WALK OF STONE Curator and author: arch. Giorgio Canale, Creative Director DDM Branding The Plus Theatre is set to offer a unique and unforgettable experience at Marmomac this year, with the Walk of Stone exhibition, conceived and curated by architect Giorgio Canale, taking center stage. For the first time, visitors will be treated to a special walkway inspired by the Walk of Fame, with natural stone taking center stage. This tribute showcases the incredible variety and richness of natural materials, highlighting their diverse colors, textures, and intricate details. Spanning approximately 240 square meters, this exhibition serves as an exclusive platform for both Italian and international companies to display the unique qualities of their products. The international involvement fosters a strong sense of community within the industry. By partnering with leading Italian companies, this collaboration creates an important space for networking, idea exchange, and celebrating excellence in natural materials. Each stone in the exhibit has been carefully selected for its unique identity and characteristics, adding significant value to the installation. These materials not only display stunning aesthetic diversity but also offer functionality and innovation, making them ideal for a wide range of design and architectural projects. Architect Giorgio Canale’s project underscores the importance of choosing natural materials in space design, demonstrating how each element can create distinctive and personalized environments. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the endless possibilities offered by nature, making it an ideal backdrop for photos, social media videos, and special events. CECI N’EST PAS UN FOSSILE Curator: Giuseppe Fallacara Stone design – The workshop of the future: an immersion in stone. The shape of the “workshop” of the future, located within the cultural space of Pavilion 10 of the fair, is inspired by the world of lithics, specifically by the shape of fossilized shells contained within the sedimentary stone, which, when cut, reveal the characteristic logarithmic spiral shape. The spiral geometry of ammonites characterizes the planimetric form of the “workshop,” aiming to symbolically represent an “immersion” into the lithic world rich in discoveries and innovations for the future. A bridge between millions of years past and the near future. In addition to the unique and surprising origami-shaped spatial development of the exhibition, the true protagonists of MMA2024 are the young creatives belonging to schools of Architecture, Industrial Design, Fine Arts Academies, and Engineering from various Italian and foreign universities. They are tasked with constructing the space in collaboration with companies in the stone sector and animating the pavilion throughout the fair days. In the “workshop” of the future, attendees will interactively witness and participate, engaging with the young protagonists, in various stages of the design process, from the birth of the idea to its prototypical realization through various emerging technologies present in the exhibition (CAD modellers, 3D printers, Oculus Rift, HoloLens, etc.). Divided into functional areas such as design, 3D printing, and prototypical construction, the “workshop” of the future, rich in daily events, will indicate a possible operational perspective towards which to guide the complex world of lithic design.

VIAGGIO AL CENTRO DELLA TAVOLA Curator and author: Raffaello Galiotto In front of an empty table, we are commonly inclined to place an object at its centre. A reassuring gesture, guided by our innate sense of order and balance, is carried out to highlight the surface's ideal point and determine the peripheral area for use. From this inherent need, the concept of a centerpiece has developed over time: an object usually of particular value, either in craftsmanship or material, serving decorative and functional purposes. The installation “Journey to the Center of the Table” aims to be a colourful and fascinating composition of tables in natural stone, consisting of a support surface made from a slab and a centerpiece finely crafted using the most advanced numerical technologies. An extraordinary journey into marble, discovering various coloured lithotypes and their specific characteristics, visible in two-dimensional slabs and the three-dimensional version of a design object.
