Physicians are fighting for time with patients. Unfortunately, decisions made by third parties in health care are dramatically limiting the time physicians can spend with their patients. We need to push back together against the bureaucratic red tape of health care. Share your story at www.ALFixPriorAuth.com

Protecting Patients. Promoting Physicians.
About us
The Medical Association of the State of Alabama serves, leads and unites physicians with the highest quality of health care for Alabama's citizens through advocacy, information and education. With more than 7,000 members, the Medical Association is the oldest, largest and most effective organization representing physicians and medicine in Alabama. And, with a 63 percent market share, the Medical Association has the highest concentration of physician participation in the Southeast. Protecting the practice of medicine in Alabama is our primary concern. Our Government Relations and Public Affairs team works in Montgomery and Washington, DC, to prevent intrusion into the doctor-patient relationship, reduce the insurance hassle factor and government mandates, and keep third parties out of the exam room. Protecting patient safety while minimizing physicians’ exposure to liability are top priorities. But we are only as strong as our member physicians. The Medical Association has defeated frivolous lawsuit legislation and other bills to place standards of care into state law. We have successfully protected injured workers’ access to medical care and are working with our Congressional Delegation to find solutions to the many problems with the Affordable Care Act, to stop ICD-10, and the onslaught of government mandates on physicians, and free you to do what you do best – treat patients! The Medical Association has an extensive catalog of educational courses during the year, and as an association member, registration for Annual Session is free, as well as your CME during the conference. Membership has its privileges, from communications to elite professional deals on products and services. Join us on Facebook and Twitter for breaking news. Join us today!

Delays caused by prior authorization are a growing problem that leave frustrated patients stuck waiting for medical care their doctors say they need. The problem is it has now morphed into requiring paperwork for very routine medications, routine imaging, routine care and it causes significant delays in treatment,” said Dr. Williams, president of the Medical Association. “Usually it can take days to get a response and often it will just be a denial and require an appeal and then take even longer. So it can really slow up treatment.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gdRvuSyn

Dr. Amanda Williams, President of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, recently spoke out on Alabama Public Television’s Capitol Journal about a new campaign to reduce delays in patient care caused by prior authorizations. “You have a patient who has just come in and they’re excited to feel better. They’re finally getting the treatment that they need or the diagnostic test that they need and then they’re hit with more delays,” Dr. Williams said of prior authorization requirements. “From a patient’s perspective, it can be very disheartening.” In response, the Medical Association and a coalition of health care partners has launched a new online platform— www.ALFixPriorAuth.com —where Alabamians can share their stories of prior authorization roadblocks. The website and the initiative behind it aim to encourage faster insurance approvals for needed medical care. Watch the interview here: https://lnkd.in/eeVxvH7x

A new online platform invites Alabamians to share their personal experiences with prior authorization challenges. This initiative, led by physicians with the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, is dedicated to ensuring patients receive the timely care they need—without the unnecessary delays and burdens that prior authorizations place on both doctors and patients. Our goal is to help physicians focus on what truly matters: caring for their patients, instead of navigating the red tape that takes valuable time away from treatment. Physicians and patients both know that the doctor-patient relationship is an essential part of quality care, and spending time together plays an important role in making the best healthcare decisions. The best days for physicians come when they are close at hand with patients, problem-solving any challenges that arise together. Their worst days come when they are taken away from direct patient care because they need to fight on behalf of their patients against the red tape of healthcare. Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed Medical Association Board of Censors member, Brittney Anderson, M.D., to the board of trustees of the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences. The newly established school will be located in Demopolis and offer Alabama students a high school experience that trains them to enter an in-demand medical career or to pursue higher education after graduation. The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is slated to open in the fall of 2026. “It is an honor to be appointed by Gov. Ivey to the Board of Trustees. Her leadership in establishing this school is a pivotal step toward addressing the healthcare challenges of our state. This school will not only provide essential training for the next generation of healthcare professionals but also offer life-changing opportunities for Alabama’s youth. I am excited to contribute to this vital mission,” said Dr. Anderson. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eRRGFvyG

Public health experts from some of the nation’s leading research institutions have deployed a massive medical trailer to rural parts of the South to test and survey thousands of local residents. The goal: to understand why the rates of heart and lung disease are dramatically higher there than in other parts of the U.S. The researchers aim to test the heart and lung function of roughly 4,600 residents of 10 counties and parishes in Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi while collecting information about their environments, health history and lifestyles.
