About us
Who we are: The Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC) is a P30 research center funded by the National Institute on Aging. Our center has been at the forefront of dementia research, treatment and care since 1984. What we do: Our expert staff from both Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital work closely together under the MADRC umbrella to lead cutting-edge research as well as to provide both professional and community resources and education. Our goal is to find effective treatments and eventually a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. How we Work: The MADRC research team is leading the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias by advancing research on several fronts. Our goal is to better understand how to identify, target, prevent, and fight these devastating brain diseases and someday find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. We collectively offer numerous clinical trials and observational studies. Our teams conduct research from bench to bedside and run several cutting-edge investigator-initiated studies, as well as industry sponsored trials. Our studies are both federally and privately funded.

November marks both #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth & #FamilyCaregiverMonth. It’s a perfect time to share some ways that you can support a caregiver for a loved one with dementia. ▶ Talk to the caregiver and ask them how everything is going. Acknowledge that they have a lot to manage, and let them know that you think they are doing a good job. ▶ If you do not know what to say to the caregiver, it’s fine to admit that. You could say, “I don’t really know what to say to you, but I’m sure this is hard. Please let me know if I can support you in some way.” ▶ Offer suggestions to help, such as going to the grocery store for them, raking the leaves, putting away outdoor seasonal furniture, or picking up items from the dry cleaner. ▶ Caregiving can be lonely. Ask the caregiver if they want to set up a time to talk weekly or meet for coffee. Talking can be a great stress reliever.
