MassDEP’s Emergency Response teams are on call 24/7 to protect our environment and public health. And for fifty years, MassDEP has been showing up. #TakeMeBackTuesday to 2014 when a tanker carrying 11,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over on Route 24 in Fall River. MassDEP’s Southeast Regional Office Emergency Response was on the scene to assess the potential impact on nearby wetland areas, vernal pools, and a stream. #MassDEP #MassDEP50 #EmergencyResponse #SERO #ProtectingtheEnvironment #PreservingOurFuture #Environment #PublicHealth

We know it’s cold, but did you know that warming up your car in the winter impacts air quality, is bad for your engine, and costs you money? Most importantly, Massachusetts prohibits idling for more than five minutes. Particles emitted from diesel and gas engines are lung irritants and can trigger asthma attacks and more serious health conditions. Remember, the best way to warm up your car is to drive it!

We are highlighting what fifty years of environmental protection looks like in Massachusetts. MassDEP plays an important role when disaster strikes, and we must be prepared. Training is important in ensuring our team and others are ready for natural and man-made disasters when they occur. 📸: An emergency preparedness drill on Moon Island in May 1985. #MassDEP50 #MassDEP #EnvironmentalProtection #Massachusetts
