The leaders in #respiratory disease continue to face some challenges but I'm encouraged by the small bits of progress we're seeing from #startups and smaller companies. 👏 Just this morning Sean Whooley of MassDevice reported on more good news from Lungpacer Medical, a company I've come to know and admire over the past few months. In fact, you can hear from the #neurostim company's senior technical team at #DeviceTalksBoston. Lungpacer has been on a winning streak of late: 🫁 Data backs Lungpacer Medical’s diaphragm neurostim 🫁 Lungpacer Medical wins FDA premarket approval for AeroPace neurostim system MassDevice also reported on success from AerWave, which is develop a lung denervation take to treat #COPD and #Asthma. 🫁 AerWave completes first-in-human study of lung denervation tech This space is interesting. In fact.,SoniVie Ltd, the #renaldenervation company that's being acquired by Boston Scientific, had a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease program at one point. But I can't confirm it's still active. 🫁 And finally, of course, there is Samay, which took top prize at the MedTech Innovator pitch competition at AdvaMed's anniual conference. CEO Maria Artunduaga, MD, MPH, MTM, is developing an AI-driven acoustic resonance platform for respiratory care and management. You can hear the story on a recent DeviceTalks Weekly podcast. Find all these links in the comments.

In this week’s episode of the #DeviceTalksWeekly Podcast, MassDevice Editor Chris Newmarker talks with SynCardia Systems, LLC CEO Patrick NJ Schnegelsberg & COO Matthew Schuster. Twenty years after FDA approval, #SynCardia is the only company with a commercially available total #ArtificialHeart, with more than 2,000 implants. Now they’re developing what they think will be a game-changer for the technology: a next-gen artificial heart called the Emperor that will be a fully implantable version, without external drivers. But before the interview, Host Tom Salemi gives a quick recap of the MassMEDIC Symposium and Gala. Then, Chris Newmarker & Senior Editor Danielle Kirsh unpack MassDevice’s new report on #SurgicalRobotic companies. The latest #DeviceTalks Weekly podcast features a lot of Chris Newmarker. (Though, thanks to my colleague Tom Salemi for all of the editing.) I had a great interview recently with SynCardia Systems, LLC's CEO Patrick NJ Schnegelsberg (left) and COO Matthew Schuster (right) about the #artificialheart company's next-gen Emperor device under development. They're seeking to create a fully implantable version. For now, it still needs to have a battery on the outside, but there are no external drivers. It's exciting work. ... Also, I caught up really quick with Senior Editor Danielle Kirsh about our new Surgical Robotics Special Report on MassDevice. I have links to the DeviceTalks weekly podcast episode and the free report download in the comments.
