Our CEO Andreas Raptopoulos and VP of Regulatory Strategy and Special Projects, Jim O'Sullivan, chatted with Ryan Macasero at The Mercury News about the upcoming launch of Matternet drone delivery services in Mountain View, CA. Andreas explains, “The key thing is that we want the city and residents to get excited about this service,” which will be offered at no cost during the initial phase of the pilot.  We are grateful to have the support of community leaders including Mayor Pat Showalter who said she “welcomes Matternet’s drones as an addition to the city’s high-tech services available to the public” and that “it will certainly be helpful for residents,” and Mountain View Chamber of Commerce President Peter Katz, who said, “We are excited and looking forward to this kind of service coming here to serve residents who live in hard-to-reach places in the city.” We're looking forward to bringing the benefits of drone delivery home to the city of our HQ, and will be ready for takeoff soon. We founded Matternet in 2011 in Silicon Valley, inspired from its rich history of world-changing innovation. Our journey led us to develop pioneering drone delivery technology that has served communities around the world. However, until now, we haven't had the opportunity to see our technology in action where we live and work every day. We’re incredibly excited to announce that we are preparing to launch our first-ever operation in Silicon Valley, starting right here in Mountain View, our headquarters city. We had a great time showcasing how migrolino AG delivers Frische im Anflug (Freshness on Arrival) in Zurich. Customers were able to order fresh food via app and receive it in minutes from a Matternet M2. Traditional delivery can’t match this speed and freshness! Thanks to all who joined us. Exciting news coming out of the recent AUVSI — Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International #Xponential2024 conference in San Diego. Jim O'Sullivan, our VP, Regulatory and Special Projects, said one of the dominant themes was around the eagerly anticipated Part 108 regulations, which will enable Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Operations at scale without requiring cumbersome waivers and exemptions.
