  • Investing in Fireworks this 4th of July? 🎇 We indexed the S&P 500 and consumer firework spend to the year 2000 to see how fireworks have fared against one of the most watched stock market indices. Yes, consumer spending and stock market performance measure different aspects of the economy, but this comparison highlights intriguing growth. While the S&P 500 has shown consistent growth, consumer fireworks spending has skyrocketed. From 2000 to 2023, the S&P 500 grew nearly threefold, ending at approximately 2.99 times its original value. On the other hand, consumer fireworks spending increased over fivefold, peaking dramatically in 2020 at over 4.6 times the 2000 level and continuing to rise slightly thereafter. The insights gathered from this survey are crucial for initiating efforts to enhance survey designs, leading to more effective outcomes. Our results highlight a general liking towards surveys and a preference for monetary incentives. Though limitations of sample size and voluntary participation could pose a bias, we have found a strong pattern within our results.
