  • Ronnie Brewer announced as Principal of Hampshire Unit School Columbia, TN (July 1, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Ventura is thrilled to announce Mr. Ronnie Brewer as the new principal of Hampshire Unit School. Mr. Brewer brings 16 years of educational experience to his new role at Hampshire Unit School. For the last two school years (2022-2023 & 2023-2024), he has served as Principal of Hickman County High School in Centerville, TN. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Principal at East Hickman High School during the 2021-2022 school year. His connection to Hampshire Unit School is strong, having taught there from 2017-2021 as a high school math teacher, Athletic Director, and High School Girls Basketball Coach. Earlier in his career, Mr. Brewer worked in Lewis County from 2010-2017, teaching middle and high school math and coaching girls basketball at both levels. A proud graduate of Lewis Co. High School in 1985, Mr. Brewer continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Secondary Education Minor, a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education Specialists Degree in Administration. Mr. Brewer and his wife of 35 years, Lisa, currently reside in Hohenwald, TN, where he has lived most of his life. They are extremely blessed with 3 adult children (all married) and 5 grandchildren. "I am extremely excited about being back at Hampshire Unit School. Some of my most enjoyable years as an educator came during my time at Hampshire. There's just something special about a unit school and the sense of family that comes with it. Leaving Hampshire back in 2021 was a difficult decision and I made the move because I was ready to move my career to the administration role. I always said that if I had the chance to return to Hampshire in an admin role that I would pursue that opportunity, and now that I've been given that opportunity, I can't wait to get started and work alongside the great staff at HUS," said Mr. Brewer. Superintendent Lisa Ventura expressed her confidence in Mr. Brewer's leadership, stating, "Ronnie Brewer's educational background make him an exceptional choice for principal.   • Angie Van Sant announced as Battle Creek Middle School Principal Columbia, TN (June 27, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Ventura is pleased to announce Dr. Angie Van Sant as the new principal of Battle Creek Middle School. Dr. Van Sant brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Lipscomb University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Cumberland University, an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Lipscomb University, and a Doctorate of Education from Liberty University. With twenty-six years in education, Dr. Van Sant has served eighteen years in the classroom with Metro Nashville Public Schools and eight years as the assistant principal of Whitthorne Middle School. Dr. Van Sant expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am excited about this opportunity and am very honored and thankful that Superintendent Ventura and Maury County Public Schools have instilled their confidence in me to be the new principal of Battle Creek Middle School.   • Kendra Chapman announced as Principal of Spring Hill Middle School Columbia, TN (June 26, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Ventura is pleased to announce Kendra Chapman as the new principal of Spring Hill Middle School. Kendra Chapman brings a wealth of experience and a dedication to academic excellence to her new role. With over twenty-five years in education, she has served in various capacities, including classroom teacher, instructional coach, principal, and district leader across two states and seven diverse school districts. Most recently, she served as the Middle and High School Coordinator for MCPS. Kendra holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and an M.S. Ed in Special Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She received her credentials in School Administration from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and is licensed to teach and administer K-12 education in both Virginia and Tennessee. Kendra resides in Lewisburg, Tennessee, with her husband and triplet sons. When she’s not coaching and supporting teachers and families, she enjoys traveling abroad, gardening, sewing, painting, and drinking coffee. As the new principal of Spring Hill Middle School, Kendra shared, “I look forward to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.   • Dr. Brian Brewer named Principal of Spring Hill High School Columbia, TN (June 6, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Ventura has named Dr. Brian Brewer Principal of Spring Hill High School, effective July 1, 2024. Dr. Brewer has served as the principal at Hampshire Unit School for the past two years. Dr. Brewer started his education career in 2010 in Bartlett, TN, as a math and CTE Information Technology Teacher at Bartlett High School. In 2016, Dr. Brewer became the Career and Technical Education Coordinator for Metro-Nashville Public Schools. From 2019 to 2022, also at MNPS, Dr. Brewer served as Assistant Principal at Pearl Cohn High School. In addition to his career in education, Dr. Brewer held Senior Manager and Director-level roles in IT and engineering. Dr. Brewer graduated from Kirby High School in Memphis, TN. In December 2000, he received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Crichton College. In 2012, he earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Memphis, and in 2017, an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, also from the University of Memphis. Dr. Brewer stated, “I am excited to be the new principal at Spring Hill High School. As a member of the Spring Hill community in Maury County, it is a great honor to serve in this role. Spring Hill High School has a rich history that I will continue to build upon. We will continue to create an environment where all students can succeed and be prepared for life after high school. Dr. Potts brings a wealth of experience and a dedication to academic excellence to her new role. With a background deeply rooted in education, she has served in various capacities, including as Principal of Spring Hill High School, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership in overseeing the daily operations of the school and its staff. Prior to her tenure as Principal, Dr. Potts served as an Adjunct Professor at Middle Tennessee State University, where she taught Bachelor, Masters, and EDS level classes in curriculum and instruction and leadership. Her commitment to educational excellence is further evidenced by her role as Assistant Principal at both Spring Hill High School and Mt. Pleasant Middle School of the Visual & Performing Arts. Dr. Potts's educational journey includes a Doctorate Degree in Administration & Supervision from Tennessee State University, a Master’s in Administration & Supervision from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Bachelor of Science from the same institution. Additionally, she holds an Associates Degree from Columbia State University and a Certificate from the Summer Institute for Special Education at Memphis State University. Dr. Potts stated, “I am both excited and saddened at the same time. I am sad to leave my Spring Hill family, with whom I have been for over 10 years. However, I am also excited about the new opportunity to lead E. A. Cox in a positive direction—a place that I helped open in 1997!   • Shanda Sparrow-Lang Announced as Principal of Columbia Central High School Columbia, TN (June 10, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Ventura is excited to announce that Shanda Sparrow-Lang has been named the new principal of Columbia Central High School. Shanda Sparrow-Lang has distinguished herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity. Her exemplary leadership has earned her the title of 2023-2024 Maury County Schools Principal of the Year, recognizing the positive influence she has on many young lives. She was previously named the 2018-2019 Principal of the Year, further demonstrating her outstanding leadership and dedication to education. Shanda holds an associate degree from Walters State Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University, and a Master of Education degree in Special Education, along with an educational specialist degree in administrative leadership from Middle Tennessee State University. Shanda has served as an educator for twenty-three years, including ten years as the principal of Spring Hill Middle School. In her tenure at Spring Hill Middle, the school accomplished the highest rating in areas of academic growth & achievement. This year the school was designated an “A” by the state of TN. Shanda shared, “I'm excited about this new opportunity and very thankful that Ms. Ventura and her staff have instilled their faith and confidence in me to support and lead one of the BEST high schools in America!   • April Hardison promoted to Principal at Marvin Wright Elementary. Columbia, TN (May 17, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Lisa Ventura is delighted to announce the promotion of Ms. April Hardison to the position of principal at Marvin Wright Elementary School. With 11 years of administrative experience at Woodard and Marvin Wright Elementary schools, Mrs. Hardison brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to her new role. Ms. Hardison boasts an impressive educational background, having completed her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN. She furthered her studies with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Early Childhood Education, from MTSU, and obtained an Ed.S. in Administration and Supervision from the same institution. Her teaching career spans 15 years across Maury and Williamson Counties, where she taught both Kindergarten and 2nd grade. Mrs. Hardison's commitment to excellence in education was recognized with the attainment of her National Board Certification while teaching in Williamson County. Ms. Hardison served as an Instructional Coach at Woodard for one year, collaborating with students and teachers alike. She then transitioned into a leadership position as Assistant Principal at Woodard Elementary for four years before joining Marvin Wright Elementary in 2017, where she continued to serve as Assistant Principal for the past seven years. Superintendent Ventura expressed confidence in Ms. Hardison's ability to lead Marvin Wright Elementary School to continued success, stating, "Ms. Hardison's extensive experience and dedication to education make her the perfect fit for the role of principal at Marvin Wright Elementary.   • MARISA MASSEY APPOINTED TO RANDOLPH HOWELL ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL Columbia, TN (May 16, 2024) — Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Lisa Ventura is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Marisa Massey as the new principal of Randolph Howell Elementary STEM School. Mrs. Massey brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, having served as principal at Marvin Wright Elementary for the past 13 years. Mrs. Massey holds a Bachelor of Science from Middle Tennessee State University, a Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State University, and a Master’s Plus 30 from Drake University. Her career in education began in Maury County at Highland Park Elementary in August 2000. While at Highland Park, she taught across various grade levels including Title I, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 4th grade. While teaching Title I, Marisa Massey became trained in Recovery strategies. She later assumed the role of Title I Facilitator at Highland Park Elementary before transitioning to Marvin Wright Elementary in August 2011, where she served as assistant principal for five years before being appointed principal. Reflecting on her time at Marvin Wright Elementary, Mrs. Massey expressed gratitude for her tenure there, stating, “It was a great privilege becoming the principal at Marvin Wright in 2015. I will miss the Marvin Wright community; however, I am very excited and blessed to start my next journey with the Randolph Howell community. I look forward to serving the students, parents, and staff.   • Robin Smith announced as principal at Baker Elementary School! Maury County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Lisa Ventura is excited to announce that Mrs. Robin T. Smith M.Ed. has been promoted to Principal of Baker Elementary School. Mrs. Robin Smith began her career with Maury County Public Schools in 2019 as Assistant Principal at Baker Elementary School, where she worked alongside Mr. Jon Clanton. Robin expressed, “Best career move I’ve ever made!” Robin attended Culleoka School and Columbia Academy, graduating in 1988. She then completed her undergraduate degree at David Lipscomb University and earned her Master of Education in Leadership and Supervision from Lipscomb in 2006. Robin has been involved in education in various capacities for 22 years. She started her career as a teacher at Hickman County Middle School, where she taught 7th and 8th-grade Social Studies, coached basketball, and later became the School Counselor. In 2016, she returned to Maury County and was appointed School Counselor at Columbia Academy, where she served for three years. Upon accepting the principal position, Mrs. Smith stated, "I know that my experience in each of these roles has led me to this moment in my professional career. Each one of my previous duties has informed the way I view education and the educational process. Kids come first, and the relationships we build with them have an impact that is life-long. I do not take that lightly. I have personally been shaped and encouraged by so many amazing people in my career, from elementary and high school teachers, fellow coaches, and fantastic administrators. I want our students to leave Baker feeling the same way about us that I feel about those folks.
