It's #MaverickMonday, a weekly post about the organizations, companies, and initiatives that the badass women of Maverick Collective are putting their resources into -- as investors, donors, and/or social entrepreneurs. This week, we are spotlighting Solidarity Engineering and their mission to provide life-saving infrastructure, supplies, and education to displaced and vulnerable communities at the US-Mexico border, and beyond. Engineering plays a big role in public health, particularly in bringing a systems lens and creative problem-solving. Check out this great organization doing just that, and so much more, for the growing numbers of people that are being displaced around the world from violence, natural disasters, and persecution. The past few weeks have been heavy — globally, locally, personally, and professionally. Like many of you, I’ve felt hesitant to share, not wanting to add to the noise in an already overwhelming time. But in a recent conversation about action — something we’ll need now more than ever — we talked about how easy it is to freeze when everything feels too big, too uncertain, or too heavy. We all know, that freeze state is real. What I love about Maverick Collective is how it helps move women from #freeze to #free, making action feel possible. Not because the challenges are smaller, but because you’re no longer facing them alone. I often say that when we’re staring into the darkness, it feels far less scary with someone by your side. And even less so with an entire community behind you, helping light the way forward. And it’s not just my feeling — research supports this. For example, a study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that participants estimated a hill to be less steep when standing with a friend compared to standing alone. Same hill. Same climb. But with someone by their side, it felt easier. Doable. My friends, we’re standing at the base of a steep hill. We have to climb it — and we will. The road will be long, and the climb will be hard. But with each other by our side, it will feel far less daunting — and so much more joyful — as we climb together.

Here's a little spark of joy! In September 2024, Maverick Collective members gathered in Antigua, Guatemala, to experience two important pillars of our work: impact and community. This video captures just a slice of the magic that we experienced that week. Hear from Managing Partners, Rena Greifinger & Darley Tom, Maverick Co-Chair Cristina Ljungberg, and members Amanda Millerberg, Olivia (Liv) Chowdry, & Elizabeth Reiner, talk about the power of working in proximity to those on the frontlines of impact, and in community with one another. In a dark time that is fueled by disconnection and the usurping of power by a few, this moment in our recent history is a reminder of the brightness and possibilities when we are connected to one another and sharing in our collective power. #experientialphilanthropy https://lnkd.in/eydjP9_c

Amy Dornbusch's call to action to philanthropy is plain and simple. It's time to move! Having lived and worked in Washington DC's international NGO sector for 15 years, nearly everyone I know is impacted by the USAID funding freeze. As someone steeped in philanthropy, I also know that the paralysis and overwhelm is real when trying to figure out what to do. Unfortunately, we no longer have time to wait. Let's go! https://lnkd.in/ePBrupiK

It's #MaverickMonday, a weekly post about the organizations, companies, and initiatives that the badass women of Maverick Collective are putting their resources into -- as investors, donors, and/or social entrepreneurs. Hey menstruators! Imagine you could access a free sanitary pad INSIDE a public bathroom stall. No more awkward, finger-crossed moments of having to find a vending machine or generous stranger in the bathroom to help you out. Non-menstruators, imagine if you had to go out to the sink for toilet paper everytime you use a public bathroom. That just wouldn’t fly! Shouldn’t sanitary products be more available exactly where and when menstruators need them most? We think so! That’s why Mavericks are investing in Egal Pads, Inc to get free, accessible sanitary products into public bathroom stalls everywhere and for everyone that needs them. It's #MaverickMonday, a weekly post about the organizations, companies, and initiatives that the badass women of Maverick Collective are putting their resources into -- as investors, donors, and/or social entrepreneurs. If you are as passionate as we are about investing in women, check out CataCap's Empower Her Founders Fund, a powerful initiative that is unlocking DAF capital to invest in inspiring, women-led companies. You heard that right! Philanthropic capital, already earmarked (and tax deduced) for social impact, fueling the growth of women-led businesses that will spur even more impact, with the hopes of a healthy return back to your DAF, foundation, or non-profit of your choice. Sounds like a win-win-win! https://lnkd.in/e9gcvH9V Pam Scott

It's #MaverickMonday, a weekly post about the organizations, companies, and initiatives that the badass women of Maverick Collective are putting their resources into -- as investors, donors, and/or social entrepreneurs. Today we are spotlighting the critically acclaimed new documentary feature film Who in the Hell is Regina Jones? From being pregnant and married at 15, through the middle of the Watts Rebellion of 1965, to emerging as a groundbreaking newspaper publisher, Regina is a testament to the American experience. That lived experience, as a Black American woman raising a family of 5 children, stepping in places where she was not wanted, and navigating a world that offered her no favors, is one that is still too often overlooked. The film will have its Washington DC premier on February 2nd at the National Gallery of Art. Register here to attend! https://lnkd.in/enX5sswb Emma Shapiro #experientialphilanthropy

This week we are spotlighting Unconventional Ventures, a Nordic-based, early-stage VC that is led by, and investing in, under-represented founders advancing environmental and social impact. What we especially love is the intention that they put behind every element of their business -- marrying impact, diversity and leading with transparency -- across their team, investment portfolio, and work with founders. It is quite the Monday. A day of celebration for some and of dread for others. A day that some of us will mourn this morning's passing of a leader who fought for women's rights and autonomy; and a day many of us will honor the legacy of a man who fought tirelessly for peace and justice. A day to be reminded that this world is so much bigger and more complicated than any of us, and can be healed through generosity and through action. For our #MaverickMonday post this week, where we spotlight the initiatives around the world that Maverick Collective members are supporting, we are happy to share this initiative that so many Mavericks have gotten behind, to support families impacted by the Los Angeles fires. Together with Paris Hilton and the 11:11 Foundation, Maverick members have banded together with millions of people around the country to rapidly raise and deploy much needed funds for displaced families with young children and babies who need accommodation, supplies and support. In just over a week, we have helped move close to $1M to help rent hotel rooms for families, deliver diapers, purchase formula, provide cash assistance grants, and deliver other supplies and services to young families. This is the power of collective action. This is the power of love. More information can be found below. https://lnkd.in/eVVfcT_u #MLK Amy Dornbusch Alexandra Idol
