The Center for Friction Stir Prossing #CFSP at BYU Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering is pioneering ultra-high speed linear friction stir welding #FSW at speeds starting at 10 meters per minute. Just to be clear you’re witnessing a lap weld between aluminum sheets at velocities comparable with high speed machining, creating a hermeticly sealed joint capable of holding pressures exceeding 120 psi.
