Tampa’s Westshore District is looking more vibrant each day with local art appearing on many public spaces in the corporate office hub. With the district transitioning into a mixed-use urban hub, we are excited about our newest art piece in progress! Created by Jay Giroux of Greater Public Studio, the large-scale mural depicts the evolution of flight from birds to the airplane. This new Avion Park mural will be an addition to the existing Tampa-themed mural by Vitale Brothers that adorns a wall in the patio area at Hyatt House Westshore. “They’re both subtle takes on the art of flight,” John McKibbon IV says. “Based on the location, that’s the direction those pieces kind of lean. It’s something for folks to look at, to think about, to contemplate, which a lot of public art is. And it’s just cool to have. It’s something recognizable. We like to think that we do everything that we do in a first class nature. And if the budget allows we like to make the extra spend for things that are additive to the project. ‘Soaring Spirits’ and the mural going on the garage both fall into that category. We’re not expecting that we’re going to make some big return out of these investments but they do put money back into the community to local artists. They promote local art.” We look forward to continuing our support of Westshore Alliance’s public arts initiative, and cultivating a sense of community through local art. Last week we hosted McKibbon Connect at our Tampa office - a workshop focused on connecting our associates with helpful tools and resources while immersing them in our McKibbon culture and guiding principles. Attendees were able to network with on-property and corporate McKibbon team members who support their personal and professional growth. Last month, juniors and seniors of the Ryan Nece Foundation's Student Service Program gathered at Hyatt House in Avion Park for an empowering evening, thanks to McKibbon Hospitality.   Our seniors worked with Ashley Dixon, Director of Talent Acquisition & Retention, to build their resumes and enhance their interview skills. One student shared, “I learned the importance of researching a company and aligning with their culture—such an informative session!”   Meanwhile, our juniors were inspired by Scott Pejsa and Mike Dickey on time management and creating Vision Boards. As one student put it, “The room was filled with aspirations and determination to reach our goals.”   A huge thank you to McKibbon Hospitality and everyone who made this event a success.
