Yesterday, we celebrated the newly installed book nooks with a ribbon cutting ceremony. These book nooks are now available in key locations throughout the McLaren Greater Lansing health system including the emergency room waiting area, the Multi-Specialty Clinic, and Family Medicine Clinic. These book nooks provide material for young families primarily focusing on health-related topics and emotions for young children who may need a little comfort and distraction when in a hospital or doctor's office setting. A special thank you to the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation, Ingham Intermediate School District, Pace Howe Design, and NBS Commercial Interiors who worked together to fund this project! Today we honor the teachings and principles of Martin Luther King Jr. and have the pleasure to sponsor and attend this year's 40th annual MLK Day of Celebration, presented by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan. As Dr. King said, "The time is always right to do what is right," and that is what we strive for when providing equitable health care for the greater Lansing community.

In 2007, our hospital launched its robotic program with its first da Vinci robotic-assisted procedure. Now, 17 years later, we are celebrating a major milestone of 10,000 robotic-assisted cases completed! We were honored to welcome Michigan State University Office of the President Kevin Guskiewicz, Ph.D., including Norm Hubbard, senior vice president of MSU health services, Janet Lillie, assistant vice president for community relations, Harold Balk, senior advisor to the president, and Candice Goerger, special assistant to the president, to McLaren Greater Lansing's health care campus. Our President and CEO, Kirk Ray, and VP of Support Services John Patterson, gave a tour highlighting the robust partnership seen throughout our facilities with MSU. We look forward to a bright future and are committed to strengthening our long-standing relationship with MSU, a partnership that enhances health care access for our community. Go green!

Lori Shaw, trauma registrar and EMS liaison, was honored as the newest recipient of our Extraordinary Employee of the Season Award! This award is peer-nominated and acknowledges any employee in the hospital system for the extraordinary work they do. Lori, who has worked at McLaren for 30 years, was nominated for the outstanding teamwork she provides in the emergency department and as EMS liaison.
