  • Each quarter, the Montgomery County ADAMHS board accepts nomination from community providers and law enforcement organizations in an effort to recognize individuals who have exhibited effective crisis intervention skills or promoted the mission of crisis intervention training. In September 2024, the MCSO Hostage Negotiation Team was called to the home of a barricaded individual verbalizing intent to commit suicide. The resident presented with a long history of significant mental illness and substance abuse issues. Det. Alec Denker used active listening and advanced crisis intervention skills to successfully deescalate the resident and safely remove him from the scene. We appreciate ADAMHS' dedication to providing Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and thank them for recognizing the outstanding work of Det. Denker, who was one of the recipients of this quarter's CIT award.

  • Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck today issued a warning to residents about several phone scams circulating in the community. In these scams, callers pose as employees of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to deceive residents into making substantial payments under false pretenses. The fraudulent callers tell residents they have failed to appear in court or have an urgent legal matter to address. Victims are then threatened with arrest unless they make immediate payments through platforms such as PayPal, Apple Pay, money orders, or other payment methods. Adding to their deception, scammers often use caller ID spoofing to make it appear as though the call is coming from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. "These scammers can be extremely convincing," said Sheriff Rob Streck. "They exploit fear and confusion to pressure people into compliance. Let me be clear: the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will never call residents to demand payment or threaten arrest for unpaid fines, warrants, or missed court dates." Sheriff Streck noted that scammers have been using the actual names of Montgomery County Sheriff's Office employees to make their schemes appear more legitimate. "We want residents to know this is a deliberate tactic by these criminals to make their schemes more believable," Sheriff Streck added. "Always verify the authenticity of any call, and don't hesitate to reach out to your local police department to report suspicious activity." The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office urges residents to remain vigilant and educate family and friends about these scams, which target individuals from all walks of life and age groups.
