Maryland is modernizing its government and driving economic development thanks to new initiatives driven by the Moore-Miller administration. Leading one of these efforts is Eric Bathras, Chief Technology Officer of Infrastructure at DoIT, who heads the newly formed Digital Infrastructure Group (DIG). DIG’s mission is to streamline how state agencies coordinate broadband development, optimizing state investments. By adopting a private-sector approach, DIG aims to create a “single view” of broadband assets, enhancing communication and decision-making. This initiative will help to improve connectivity and drive economic growth and efficiency. Learn more by reading the full article from Technical.ly: https://lnkd.in/eCGykkua

Today, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, members of the AI Sub-cabinet, senior leaders from the Department of Information Technology (DoIT), and the Department of Higher Education met with AI leaders and subject matter experts from across Maryland’s academic institutions during the state’s AI Roundtable. At the roundtable, leaders in state agencies and academic institutions, along with industry advocates and experts, discussed needs and mapped areas of shared interest with the goal of unlocking clear short–, medium--, and long-term opportunities for collaboration. Leaders from both the state and academia sides spoke on the need to break down silos and become more inter-connected to realize shared AI-related goals around economic development. After opening remarks from Lieutenant Governor Miller and Maryland legislators, DoIT’s very own Nishant Shah helped attendees understand the state’s AI strategy by going through its recently released AI roadmap. Shah, Maryland’s Senior Advisor for Responsible AI, spearheads the adoption of responsible, productive AI across the state, leads the state’s first AI enablement team at DoIT, and facilitated its recent AI Roadmap. ”We have an incredible opportunity to use AI to make the State more productive and to improve services for our constituents,” says Shah. “To realize that ambition, we’ll need deep partnership across sectors and a strengthened AI ecosystem in the State. Maryland is particularly blessed with leading academic institutions doing cutting-edge applied research in AI. Unlocking deeper collaboration between the State and Academia will help us increase our momentum and set us up for success.” Special kudos go to DoIT’s Senior Director of UX Design and Service Delivery, Lilly Madigan, for facilitating the event and helping keep the event light, engaging, and productive. Thanks Johns Hopkins university Hopkins University, UMBC, Morgan State, University of Maryland, Towson, UMES, Bowie State, Coppin State, Salisbury State, the Naval Academy, and the University of Buffalo - SUNY for sending representatives to the event and for helping us advance Maryland’s productive, responsible use of AI.

Testimonial Tuesday: Demetrius Foster Today’s testimonial goes to Demetrius Foster, DoIT’s VMware Engineer of our Data Center Operations team. When James (Jim) McMahan, Legacy CCATS Project Manager for the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), needed password support, Demetrius stepped in quickly to help resolve the issue. “Thanks for putting us in touch with Demetrius regarding the password issue. Once D connected with Nilesh, he was back in business within minutes. Ironically, we had a second similar issue this afternoon and D helped again. I want to again thank you and share how helpful Demetrius was to our process. The CCATS team has a number of deliverables for 1/1 and these roadblocks just kill momentum. Thanks!” Thank you, Jim, for the kind words and awesome work removing roadblocks Demetrius!
