As a junior doctor, Henry identified a problem affecting the efficiency of medical paperwork and used his ingenuity to create a solution with real impact. His business, Medscribe, provides an AI tool that automates clinic letters and discharge summaries, giving doctors more time to focus on patient care. 🩺 🥼 For his work on Medscribe, Henry was named the Ingenuity Impact University of Nottingham Champion 2024 and received the 'Best Start-Up' award at the Engineers in Business Fellowship (EIBF) Champion of Champions 2024. Held at the Royal Academy of Engineering, the competition featured engineering students from across the country pitching bold, innovative and impactful business ideas. Our top prizes were awarded to ⬇️ 🏅 Big Ideas Prize: The Algae Photobioreactor from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd for a compact bioreactor that captures carbon as effectively as 50 trees. 🏅 Startup Prize: Medscribe from the University of Nottingham for an AI-driven tool to reduce clinician paperwork. 🏅 Enterprise Award: pAiback from University of Southampton for a system that secures automatic savings on airfares. Can data be the foundation of a successful business? And how do we truly value it? 💡 These were the key questions during last week's Lunch&Learn session of the Young Entrepreneurs Scheme. With data playing a crucial role in almost every industry, the conversation around data accessibility, reliability, and value creation is more relevant than ever. As AI continues to transform the business landscape, data generation is becoming ubiquitous—impacting sectors from energy to healthcare. During the session, we heard from some inspiring startups harnessing data to fuel innovation: 🌱Dr. Andrew Jenkins, CEO & co-founder of Kinewell Energy, shared how their SaaS solution optimizes wind farms, making them more cost-effective using data. 🏥 Dr Henry James, founder of Medscribe, discussed how transparent data accessibility can empower better patient health decisions. 📊 Charlie Gale, founder of Data Union Café, explored how consumers can take control of their own data and trade it for rewards, turning everyday activities into valuable assets. The session gave us much to think about regarding best practices for responsible and transparent data usage.
